- Maintains a security "presence" at all times while on duty
- Maintains high level of alertness/awareness of surroundings
- Keeps dispatcher, supervisor and manager informed of pertinent events and activities
- Participate in required training and drills, and takes advantage of elective educational opportunities
- Is knowledgeable of security policies, procedures and guidelines and applies them accordingly
- Is proficient in the use of security equipment, maintains equipment through daily care, and reports broken or malfunctioning equipment in a timely manner
- Gives accurate and understandable directions
- Provides escorts anywhere on the campus to ensure safety
- Provides appropriate access control to the property, buildings and to secure areas within those buildings
- Assists motorists by locating/relocating vehicles and providing jump starts for dead batteries
- Assists healthcare providers with patient care by providing observation, stand-by support, escorts, non-violent crisis intervention
- Applies restraints competently in accordance with training and policies. Demonstrates appropriate use of force if necessary
- Provides staff with orientation information; documents accordingly
- Greets all persons in a welcoming, professional manner
- Demonstrates proficiency looking up patients
- Provides direction and other assistance as needed
- Ensures wheelchairs are available for patients and visitors
- Provides backup support and responds to all areas
- Monitors driveway area during downtime
- Patrols interior facilities and exterior grounds to detect and deter criminal activity, policy violations and other infractions
- Takes corrective action to mitigate or resolve safety hazards, security breaches and other unsafe conditions
- Checks doors and gates to make certain they are secure and operating properly
- Monitors vehicles for low tires, open windows and doors, or other concerns and contacts owner
- Takes appropriate action to safeguard unattended/unsecure property and return to owner
- Enforces traffic and parking policies throughout the campus
- Responds to calls and in-person requests for assistance
- Monitors alarm systems and responds accordingly to activations
- Maintains radio communications with officers
- Dispatches assignments in an appropriate, prioritized manner
- Provides communications with outside agencies, such as police and fire
- Monitors video surveillance system for suspicious activity and to support incident response efforts
- Maintains logs and other routine documentation
- Creates ID badges through appropriate data entry, photo taking and printing
- Demonstrates ability to utilize the Matrix system for access control and ID management
- Responds quickly and effectively to emergency and non-emergency incidents and events
- Exercises good judgment handling emergency situations, such as fire alarms etc.
- Takes corrective action to mitigate/manage the situation and ensure the safety of those involved
- Summons the support of outside police agencies as needed and serves as point of contact
- Notifies the appropriate individuals about incidents as they occur
- Gathers detailed information about the incident and persons involved
- Determines the scope of an incident and takes action to minimize further impact
- Takes preventative action to reduce the risk of recurrence
- Ensures follow-up on unresolved issues related to the incident
- Completes accurate, objective, legible reports in a timely manner; includes statements and photographs as needed
- High school graduate or equivalent
- Minimum of two years security experience
- OPOTA/OPOTC certification or equivalent and/or previous hospital experience preferred
- Valid Driver's License in the State of Ohio
- Experience with CCTV operations and alarm monitoring desired
- Effective verbal and written communication/customer service skills
- Physically capable of performing all required duties, including, but not limited to: long periods of standing and prolonged walking, and physical confrontations with combative person(s)
