Position SummaryOrganization: YMCA of Central New MexicoLocation: Various Locations In Albuquerque - Heights to WestsideAn Off-Campus Work-Study Position - MUST have a Work-Study AwardThe Math Tutor will work primarily with elementary-age children to strengthen their math skills, build confidence, and develop problem-solving abilities. Tutoring may be provided one-on-one or in group settings during YMCA programs and community events.The YMCA of Central New Mexico is committed to strengthening communities through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. As part of our mission, this position supports academic success for children, particularly those from economically disadvantaged backgrounds.It is essential that the Math Tutor makes math engaging and fun, creates a welcoming and supportive environment, and inspires students to persist through challenges.Responsibilities:Implement small-group math enrichment and tutoring sessions.Assist children in understanding math concepts including number sense, operations, fractions, geometry, measurement, and introductory algebra as appropriate for grade level.Adapt lessons and strategies to support children with varying abilities and backgrounds.Engage and maintain the attention of children in group settings.Support children who are working below grade level.Provide additional support for children who are English Language Learners (ESL).Track progress and adjust instruction to meet student needs.This position description is not intended to be all-inclusive. Minimum QualificationsEnrolled in a degree seeking program at UNM, Enrolled at least half-time (6 hours) at UNM for fall and spring semesters (Audit hours do not count), and if Work Study, you must meet Satisfactory Academic Progress.

High school diploma or equivalent required.Enjoy working with children.Enthusiastic and passionate about literacy and learning.Confident in reading aloud with a clear, engaging voice.Ability to hold the attention of children during group activities.Must be available to work weekend events as scheduled.
