ResponsibilitiesMasTec Communications Group is seeking a full-time OSP Designer in support of a large-scale telecommunications project for both OSP Fiber and Copper Networks.The position requires experience with outside plant in aerial, buried and/or underground facilities, with a thorough knowledge of all issues related to federal, state or local government permitting; as well as pole and conduit licensing procedures with utility permitting agencies. The OSP Engineer must work cohesively with the Engineering PM.In addition, you will:
- Receive field data collected, analyze local and wide area network systems, and develop most cost efficient fiber/copper network route design in accordance with customer specifications and guidelines
- Read and understand road prints, utility maps, and as-builts to identify conflicts with existing facilities
- Collaborate with any necessary vendor, as well as internal GIS and CAD teams to produce all required documentation for application packages
- Follow very specific and detailed procedures already implemented while remaining flexible enough to readily adapt to changing standards and procedures without notice
- Coordinate with project team for forecasting, scheduling, resources management, and quality assurance
- Review project deliverables for accuracy and apprise project management team of risks, issues, and recommended mitigations
- Work in tandem with various managers across the project to identify scope creep, manage to change orders, and complete routine billing
- Ensures the integrity of the customer access network is maintained and provides support for the deployment of access technologies
- Assist with as-built package completion and delivery as well as billing closeout
- Perform Quality review on all OSP Engineering Design packages
- Ensure that all Aerial, Underground and Buried cable designs have been reviewed and analyzed for the most cost-effective solutions and placement
- Verify that the Customer scope of work or plan was followed
- Verify that all existing underground and aerial facilities are correctly located per customer records, city records, and per field conditions
- Accurately depict new construction route opportunities, with the ability to identify, research and problem solve cable path/placement issues and accurately relay solutions to the engineering team
- Identify missing and/or incorrect design information
- Communicate quality issues with the engineer and engineering manager to find resolution
- Approve designs before submittal to customer
- Ensure current design is the most effective and efficient plan to follow
- Ensure designs are in accordance with customer specifications and guidelines
- Manage and enforce engineering quality and compliance with outside plant design specification
- Own the quality control process to produce a value-engineered design, removing all obstacles for construction
QualificationsAbout You:
- Sound OSP engineering experience deploying fiber optic and Copper networks - Knowledge of engineering principles within OSP job related functional area including general practices, procedures and industry standards.
- 3+ years of OSP Design engineering experience.
- 1+ years of experience performing QC review on OSP Design packages prepared by others.
- Working knowledge of client software systems and builds
- Knowledge of fiber optic and copper counts, fiber assignments, and splicing schematics in all OSP environments.
- Knowledge of engineering tools including AutoCAD, ARAMIS, OCalc, 3-GIS,or any similar GIS/KMZ platforms.
- Proficient in Adobe, Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook, Google Sheets and Google Drive.
- Possess strong communication and people skills
- Strong language skills are required, both oral & written
- Show a “sense of urgency” to get the job done to meet all due dates
- Follow-up with our customer and provide a status of any and all assigned work

- Bachelor’s degree in Telecommunications, Engineering, Industrial Technology, or related field is preferred, or Telecom, Engineering, or Drafting completed courses and diploma from a technical school or community college
