- The Multifaith Chaplaincy & Sustained Dialogue (MSCD) team for Fall 2025 to Spring 2026 consists of David Dorsey (Multifaith Chaplain), Saphira Klearman (Barefoot Fellow), and Sophia Colby (Sustained Dialogue Coordinator). Multifaith Chaplaincy & Sustained Dialogue collaborates with, but is separate from, the Office of Religious and Spiritual Life.
- Multifaith Chaplaincy & Sustained Dialogue runs the Barefoot Dialogue program, where students get together every other week over a home cooked meal and have conversation around a centerpiece (a song, poem, article, artwork, etc) under the guidance of trained student dialogue facilitators. Barefoot dialogue is a place where students can be authentic, vulnerable, and honest, find meaning across difference, and depart in relationship.
- The MSCD team responds to campus bereavement through compassionate listening and through connecting the community to other resources.
- The MCSD team coordinates one-off dialogue events with students, faculty, staff, and the Oberlin community.
- Multifaith Chaplaincy & Sustained Dialogue aims to support the fostering of a pluralistic community, including through initiatives like the Multifaith eNews, the Multifaith Faculty Advisory, and the forthcoming Multifaith Scholars Program.
- The team works in the Lewis House, which is open as a space of hospitality from 9 AM to 4:30 PM on weekdays.
- Graphic design and audiovisual media production/editing
- Doing photography at events using a digital camera
- Creating and editing video content
- Creating posters for events using Canva or other design software
- Creating social media content
- Potentially, designing merch (stickers, etc)
- Programming promotion
- Be a warm and welcoming representative of Multifaith Chaplaincy & Sustained Dialogue at Oberlin
- Tabling at fairs
- Putting up posters around campus
- Proactively and independently making connections with campus partners (such as identity housing, clubs, and other support services) to increase awareness of our resources, including among (but not limited to) less represented populations in our programming
- Lewis House hospitality
- Greeting guests with warmth and discretion, honoring confidentiality
- Ensuring the house is orderly
- Researching current events related to religion and religious pluralism for our email newsletter
- Barefoot support
- Act as a sous-chef, following recipes and working with others in the kitchen
- Keeping the kitchen clean and organized after cooking
- Adding centerpieces to our online database using Chicago style citations
- Printing and preparing centerpieces for dialogues
- Support staff on research tasks and data entry- Offer counsel and assistance in best practices and use of social media
Qualifications
- Must be currently enrolled at Oberlin College or Oberlin Conservatory. Alumni will not be considered for this role.
- Comfort and interest in a multicultural, multifaith, religiously pluralistic environment
- You do not need to consider yourself religious or spiritual to be an excellent fit for this position, but you must be sensitive to others who come to the Lewis House for spiritual support, and respect our mission of pluralism.
- Experience in one or more of the following: media production, programming promotion, hospitality, cooking
- Independence, reliability, and trustworthiness
- Keep confidential information confidential
- Oversee the Lewis House responsibly, with minimal supervision
- Reliably come in for shifts as scheduled
