- High School Diploma
- NYS RN License
- At least 3 years of related experience, specifically in long term care or care of the developmentally disabled.
- A minimum of 1 year supervisory experience.
- Assures proper functioning of facility during tour of duty and properly reports/ responds to any unusual or hazardous events
- Responds to all resident emergent events and assures care is provided in an appropriate, timely manner
- Supervises the nursing care of the residents provided by staff.
- Makes independent decisions regarding nursing care.
- Independently manages all staffing issues during time of duty, in compliance with facility policy and chain of command. Replaces staff who have called-in and mandates staff as necessary
- Makes rounds to all resident units at least twice a shift. Ensures environmental and infection control standards are maintained
- Disciplines staff in consultation with Nursing Administration
- Ensures completion of unit 24-hour reports and Nursing Supervisor report. Provides for a smooth transition of charge to oncoming shift House Supervisor or charge nurses
- Ensures completion of resident and/or employee incident reports per policy. Provides follow-up documentation regarding investigation and plan of action as necessary
- Actively participates in the Quality Improvement process through the completion of staff audits
- Conducts fire drills. Completes required documentation
- Ensures compliance to facility Infection Control policies. Initiates precautions as necessary and completes associated staff audits
- Meets with family members present during their shift as necessary. Addresses concerns and negotiates resolution to issues presented
- Consults with medical providers regarding resident care
- Oversees formulation and completion of resident assignments
- Provides input to the Education Coordinator regarding the inservicing needs of the staff. Conducts in-services as requested
- Takes charge of a unit; administers medications and tube feedings in the absence of a staff nurse, following facility policies
