- Utilize Georgia Commercial Driver's license for operating vehicles and heavy equipment
- Perform tasks related to unblocking service cleanouts and clearing manhole spills to ensure proper sewer system function.
- Draft detailed reports documenting inspections, task completions, and recommendations for maintenance activities, as needed.
- Clear debris from catch basins, storm lines, and grates to prevent blockages and maintain water flow.
- Diagnose the causes of cave-ins and operate equipment such as Vactors and hand rods to remove blockages from service lines.
- Ensure safety at work areas by setting up necessary precautions to protect the public and flagging traffic for crew safety.
- Conduct pre-trip inspections on equipment to ensure proper functioning and safety standards.
- Take vehicles for refueling, transport containers to the landfill for disposal, and facilitate vehicle maintenance as needed.
- Assist Crew Supervisor I's & II's with their duties to support overall operations.
- Attend safety classes and meetings to stay updated on safety protocols and regulations.
- Check pumps and hoses for leaks to prevent hazardous situations and ensure the integrity of the bypass process.
- Respond promptly to Watershed Dispatch calls regarding sewer spills, odor complaints, and other sewer-related issues.
- Assist in locating manholes in wooded areas that may contribute to contamination of water sources.
- Assist law enforcement in removing loaded weapons or other hazardous materials from catch basins.
- Aid the public in retrieving personal items, such as keys, cell phones, and tablets, from catch basins.
- Clean grates and remove floodwater from public roads to ensure safe passage for vehicles and pedestrians.
- Substitute for supervisors during their absence, assuming leadership responsibilities, as necessary.
- Assist other crews as needed, collaborating with colleagues to accomplish departmental goals.
- Ensure the safety and optimal functioning of the operation utilizing heavy equipment, such as dump trucks, backhoes, and skid loaders.
- Transport containers to the landfill for proper disposal, contributing to waste management efforts.
- Attend safety classes and meetings to stay updated on safety protocols and regulations, promoting a culture of safety within the workplace.
- May perform other duties as assigned.
- Knowledge of department policies and procedures: Knowledge of general site safety as it pertains to water operations and maintenance. Methods, products, tools and equipment used in water maintenance and construction work, of basic mathematical principles.
- Skill: In operating a variety of light to heavy power equipment (backhoe, excavator, vactor truck); in maintenance of tools and equipment (pumping equipment, hydraulic excavator, concrete socket).
- Ability: to understand and apply pertinent policies, procedures and regulations; to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted during the course of work; to perform maintenance activities involving skills in the functional fields to which they are assigned; to maintain records and make simple reports; to work beyond normal working hours, as required. Ability to trouble shoot as it pertains to heavy equipment (water mains). Ability to communicate diplomatically with customers to successfully address concerns. Ability to adapt to changes in work environment. Ability to document work status with photos and data input.
- High school diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED); 2 years of experience in construction, and wastewater collection systems or water distribution systems; and a State of Georgia Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Class B
- High school diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED); 3 to 4 years of experience in construction, and wastewater collection systems or water distribution systems
