Position Title: Professional TutorDepartment: Student Success - Chicago CampusReports To: Director of Academic Success - Chicago Campus
Location: On Campus (Chicago, IL)Position Summary:Dominican University's Chicago Campus is seeking a committed and experienced professional tutor to provide academic support to undergraduate students, particularly those in cohort-based associate degree programs. This position is designed to offer in-person subject tutoring that fosters academic growth, builds confidence, and supports student persistence in a welcoming and culturally responsive environment.The Professional Tutor will work closely with the Student Success team and faculty to align academic support with classroom expectations and learning outcomes.SCHEDULE REQUIREMENTS:This position requires in-person availability at the Chicago Campus during the following times:
  • Sundays 8:00 PM - 10:00 PM
  • Mondays from 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM
  • Wednesdays from 8:00 PM - 10:00 PM. Additional hours may be available based on student demand and tutor availability.
Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Provide one-on-one and small group tutoring in assigned subject areas, English, Math, Political Science, etc.
  • Create a supportive and inclusive learning environment tailored to the needs of first-generation and historically underserved student populations.
  • Assist students in understanding course content, developing effective study strategies, and improving overall academic performance.
  • Maintain accurate session records and timesheets.
  • Collaborate with faculty and Student Success staff to ensure tutoring aligns with course objectives.
  • Support outreach efforts by encouraging student engagement with academic resources.
  • Participate in occasional tutor training and development opportunities.
  • Model professionalism, punctuality, and ethical academic practices.
Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree. Master's degree preferred.
  • Prior tutoring or teaching experience at the college level.
  • Strong content knowledge in at least one core academic subject (e.g., writing, math, science, business, social sciences).
  • Ability to explain concepts clearly and adapt tutoring strategies to meet diverse learning needs.
  • Familiarity with the experiences of first-generation and low-income college students.
  • Reliable, organized, and able to work independently.
  • Comfortable using basic technology (Microsoft Office, email, online scheduling platforms).
Physical Demands:
  • Ability to spend time in the workday sitting at a desk, working on a computer, or moving around
  • Ability to lift up to 15 pounds at times

Salary and FLSA Status
  • Salary: $22.5 an hour
  • FLSA Status: Non-exempt, hourly, 6 hours a week
