Your journey starts now-protect and innovate with MANTECH!MANTECH seeks a mission-driven Chief Engineer to lead a multidisciplinary engineering and fabrication team within a dynamic rapid prototyping environment in Stafford, VA.This leadership role is focused on delivering innovative, field-ready solutions in an agile development setting. You will direct engineering efforts, oversee technical execution, and guide the integration of advanced prototyping processes to meet evolving operational requirements.Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Leading day-to-day operations of a high-performing engineering and fabrication team
Driving rapid development cycles for hardware prototypes from concept through integration
Coordinating across disciplines (mechanical, electrical, software) to ensure cohesive solution delivery
Defining project scope, schedules, and resource requirements in alignment with mission priorities
Establishing engineering standards and enforcing quality control measures throughout the development lifecycle
Mentoring junior engineers and fostering a collaborative innovation culture
Serving as the primary technical point of contact with stakeholders and ensuring customer satisfaction
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science or a related technical field
20 years of engineering experience, including leadership of multidisciplinary teams focusing on unmanned systems, Robotics, and Expeditionary Warfare
20 years of unmanned systems design, development, test, delivery, and training for live force experimentation and fielding
Governmental Systems Planning, Research, Development and Engineering (SPRDE) Level III certification qualifications, or industry equivalent
Demonstrated success managing prototype or low-rate production projects
Deep understanding of systems engineering practices and hands-on development processes
Strong background in hardware integration and troubleshooting across electro-mechanical domains
Preferred Qualifications:
Master's degree in Engineering, Systems, or Applied Sciences
Prior work in government or defense prototyping environments as a Senior Engineer
Familiarity with rapid development workflows and field testing methodologies
Program and Project Management experience with technical teams in a rapid prototyping and ever-changing requirements environment
CAD proficiency and experience interfacing with machine shops and fabricators
Clearance Requirements:
Must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance appropriate for the position.
Physical Requirements:
Must be able to remain in a stationary position 50%
Needs to occasionally move about inside the lab or shop environment to inspect builds and prototypes
Frequently communicates with engineers, technicians, and government personnel. Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations
