
Senior Mechanical Assembler - (Newport News, VA)

- Supervise a small team or work independently.
- Follow blueprints, guidelines, and/or diagrams to fabricate and assemble various electromechanical and electronic assemblies.
- Work onboard U.S. Naval Ships and military installations in an area that is somewhat uncomfortable due to drafts, noise, temperature variations and the like and with
- Demonstrate the ability to working with blueprints, assembly drawings and sketches in completing a wide variety of assembly and subassembly tasks.
- Be familiar with standard concepts, practices and procedures within this field.
- High School Diploma.
- The ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret clearance.
- The ability to obtain and gain access to shipyards (NAVSTA & DBIDS), undergo a background investigation, and pass a drug screening.
- The ability to obtain an OSHA certification.
- Shipyard experience.
- A combination of 8 years of experience in the following areas:
- Ability to build simple connectors.
- Maintain HAZMAT locker & safety operations.
- Qualify as CP; advanced understanding of QA & contractual requirements.
- Read drawings (Apprentice level)
- Drill holes, cut metal, shoot studs & use torque wrench without supervision.
- Assist with HAZMAT control and safety.
- Ability to bolt/unbolt cableways, deck plates & equipment
- Operate light machinery/ equipment
- Position, join, align, wrap & seal pipe & conduit sections
- Firewatch/Cable Installer certifications
- Carry equipment & clean spaces
- Remove lagging & paint
- Safety: Conducts safety JHAs & is an advocate for Serco’s “Zero Harm” program.
- Have the ability to Supervise supervise lower level MAs & laborers.
- Ability to follow directions of senior employees
- The ability to use power tools, assembling both large scale and intricate mechanical assemblies.
- Experience in the fabrication and precision assembly of various mechanical assemblies.
- The ability to get respirator qualified and wear proper PPE throughout their work shift.
- Willing to work more than 40 hour work weeks.
- The ability to work in high heat spaces, climb shipyard dry dock stairs/ladders, work in kneeling position for layout of cable runs under false decking, lift up to 50 pounds with 80% of work requiring carrying, pushing, and/or pulling up to 40 pounds for majority of shift while being in a standing, crouching, or walking position.
- The ability and be willing to travel up to 10% to various work sites.
- The ability to work in Newport News, VA.
