
Associate Vice President, Ambulatory Coding Services - Remote

- Accountable for all aspects of client focused Ambulatory coding services delivery, including but not limited to driving delivery and execution against KPI’s and Service Level Agreement targets
- Provide oversight and ongoing coaching, development and leadership to the coding team and ensure resource planning effective, execution and outcomes
- Fosters effective communication and builds relationships with Optum Client Executives and our Client/Partner’s management teams
- Serves as an industry expert while leading and sustaining best practices as well as driving the Optum Operating Model for Ambulatory coding services performance
- Entails the management of all functions of the medical coding department, including creating the coding process, monitoring budget, taking part in the development of programs, and performing leadership duties
- Take responsibility for how the coding department operates each day and ensure that work assignments are completed on schedule by providing effective monitoring of both quantity and quality of workflow
- Manage client interaction and customer engagement where needed, as well as coordinating with clients and internal teams
- Drive organizational efficiencies and alignment while developing scalable and sustainable infrastructure and technology solutions
- Work across a matrixed organization in a collaborative fashion to drive the mindset and cultural shift required to create a more streamlined process and improve customer experience
- Work collaboratively with the various departments to ensure coding deliverables are achieved in a timely manner
- Sets team direction, resolves problems, and provides guidance to members of their own team
- Adapts departmental plans and priorities to address business and operational challenges
- Influences or provides input to forecasting and planning activities
- Adhere to the ethical standards of coding as established by AAPC and/or AHIMA
- Adhere to and maintain required levels of performance in both coding quality and productivity as established by OptumInsight
- Other duties at the discretion of the AVP
- Professional coder certification with credentialing from AHIMA and/or AAPC (CCS, RHIA, RHIT) to be maintained annually
- 10+ years of operational coding leadership experience in a large multi-specialty ambulatory setting either hospital based, or provider based or equivalent health related organization
- Experience leading a large team of coders across distributed geographic regions
- Ability and willingness to travel up to 50% as needed for offsite clients and /or internal meetings, conferences, and training sessions
- Driver’s License and access to reliable transportation
- Solid experience working with offshore coding teams as well as multiple vendors
- Experience with various systems with a focus on EPIC and Optum Technologies
- Intermediate level of experience with Microsoft Excel

- Proficiency with MS Office applications and electronic medical records systems. Proven communication, organizational, analytical, and critical thinking skills
