Position Summary:The Transcriptionist is responsible for accurately and efficiently transcribing all dictated material, in the timeliest manner possible. He / She is responsible for accurately completing all document information screens to ensure proper routing, charting, and distribution of reports. The employee shall possess the ability to operate equipment used in the performance of medical transcription, to ensure minimal downtime. The employee will present a pleasing and helpful manner to patients, physicians, members of the Health Information Management Department, and all other medical and administrative personnel. The employee shall exhibit a courteous behavior when dealing with the public and outside related agencies. The employee shall follow the established policies and procedures of the hospital and the department. He / She shall report and contribute to the departmental objectives. Additional responsibilities include:Transcribes a minimum of 150 lines per hour meets standard. Line count is calculated using 65 characters per line, currently the national norm.Provides a 24-hour turn-around time for dictated EKG, EEG, Radiology Reports, and History and Physicals.Maintains 98% accuracy or above according to the established guidelines defined by Quality Assurance as documented in the Quality Review reports.Maintains less than two (2) documents per month returned for revision due to transcription's error. (Spelling, worktype selection, requisition number not selected, wrong visit selected, etc.).Assigns, finishes, and unassigns work according to established procedures.No substantiated incident of returning reports to pool due to receipt of a difficult dictator, coworkers complaint, or identified issue from quality review report.Accurately completes document information screens according to departmental procedure; validating accuracy by reviewing field description listed on screen.Notifies management staff of any equipment problems.Minimum Qualifications:High School Diploma or equivalent or vocational education.
