Lurie Children's Hospital of ChicagoJob DescriptionWorks under the direction of the Lurie Children’s Services Manager to provide services and programs to patients and families of all ages in inpatient and/or ambulatory settings. Conducts developmental play groups and facilitates group activity sessions and special events to meet the needs of patients in a variety of settings. Integrates Lurie Children’s mission and vision into all dimensions of work. Understands and integrates into the delivery of care the needs of children, adolescent and adult clients in regards to their growth and development. Supports the hospital's continuous quality improvement and customer service goals, and contributes to a work environment conducive to meeting these goals and standards. Job Duties:
Delivery of Services:
Leads group activity sessions and special events in an inpatient and/or ambulatory setting.
Trains and supervises volunteers working throughout the medical center.
Provides assistance to families and staff.
Makes necessary referrals to other team members and/or community resources.
Develops relationships with families that are caring, trusting, reliable, and beneficial.
2. Team Membership:
Communicates with members of the health care and psychosocial teams, through formal and informal means of transmitting information, in order to provide optimal care of patients and families.
Communicates through both conveying and responding to pertinent information.
Advocates for and addresses the psychosocial/spiritual/developmental/cultural needs of the child and family throughout the continuum of care.
Participates in the team's group problem solving and program planning.
Handles difficult situations pro-actively and collaboratively at the point of service.
Other Duties and Responsibilities:
Responsible for maintenance and stocking of play areas as assigned. Performs administrative duties such as ordering supplies, materials and entering statistics.
Receives and distributes In-Kind Donations as assigned by the Donation Coordinator.
Provides support to teams within Children’s Services as assigned.
Performs job functions adhering to service principles with customer service focus of innovation, service excellence and teamwork to provide the highest quality care and service to our patients, families, co-workers and others.
K.S.A.'s:
Knowledge of family or human development normally acquired through an associate’s degree in child development, social services or related field.
Experience in working in health care and customer service preferred.
Ability to handle multiple tasks, good communications skills, and flexibility essential.
Basic Life Support Certification required.
