Required Qualifications: Applicants must specifically address how they meet these required qualifications to meet the requirements of the position.
- A graduate degree in architectural history, art history, historic preservation, or a closely related field with coursework in American architectural history or a bachelor's degree in architectural history, art history, historic preservation, or a related field plus one of the following:
- a minimum of 2 years of full-time professional experience applying the theories, methods and practices of architectural history that enables professional judgements to be made about the identification, evaluation, documentation, registration, or treatment of historic properties in the United States and its territories; or
- products and activities that demonstrate the successful application of acquired proficiencies in the discipline to the practice of historic preservation.
- Knowledge of historic structures/sites in a military environment and experience preparing historic resource survey reports, consultation letters, or National Register of Historic Places nominations for historic resources.
- Capable of conducting cultural resources management field investigations related to position.
- Valid driver's license from any U.S. State or Territory and US Citizenship
- Experience in using Microsoft Word, Excel, and databases for the development of supporting environmental analysis.
- Experience in using GIS software such as ArcGIS and Trimble Pathfinder Office.
- Ability to gather facts, analyze and compare trends, draw conclusions, devise solutions to problems, and identify changes and trends related to comprehensive planning issues.
- Ability to communicate effectively in formal briefings and in general public meetings, and to prepare clear and concise written materials appropriate for different audiences.
- Candidate must be able to work independently as well as part of a team that regularly interacts with Department of Defense personnel, the State Historic Preservation Offices, the Advisory Council on Historic Preservation, and consulting American Indian tribes. This position will report to the Director of Texas State's Center for Archaeological Studies.
Job DutiesWe are seeking an architectural historian at Fort Knox who will provide technical support for the installation's cultural resources program and conduct research of historic buildings/sites inventory through inventories, site evaluations, and monitoring of historic sites and structures at Fort Knox. The team member will be a qualified architectural historian that meets the Secretary of Interior's Standards and Guidelines for Archaeology and Historic Preservation, Professional Qualifications Standards (as published in 36CFR Part 61 and the Federal Register 48:44738-447390). The team member will also meet the Kentucky Heritage Council's (KHC) professional standards for architectural history.
