Job Title: Advanced Emergency Technician (AEMT)Department: Emergency Medical ServicesLocation: St. Lawrence HealthHours Per Week: As needed (Per Diem)Schedule: 12-hour variable shifts; weekends and holidaysSUMMARY:An Advanced Emergency Medical Technician provides immediate basic and advanced medical care and transport of patients during emergencies, playing a critical role in stabilizing and ensuring safe transport to medical facilities.RESPONSIBILITIES:Responds to emergency calls, assess patients’ conditions, and determine appropriate medical interventions, coordinating with dispatch as necessarySafely transport patients to medical facilities, monitoring their condition and providing necessary care during transitAdminister CPR, control bleeding, manage airways, and provide other life-saving measures to stabilize patients within Scope of Practice as recognized by NYSUtilize essential medical equipment such as, but not limited to, defibrillators, oxygen delivery systemsWork closely with paramedics, firefighters, law enforcement, and hospital staff to ensure coordinated patient care reporting nature of injury as indicatedMaintain accurate and detailed patient care reports, documenting assessments, treatments, and patient responsesEnsure the cleanliness and readiness of emergency vehicles and medical equipmentInterpret oral, written and diagnostic form instructions, including calculating weight and volume ratiosLift and move patients, often in challenging environments, such as extreme terrain or temperaturesParticipate in continuous education to stay current with medical protocols and enhance skillsAbility to maintain composure and professionalism in high-pressure situationsWorking Conditions and Physical Requirements (Expanded):Work in a variety of uncontrolled and potentially hazardous environments (indoor/outdoor, inclement weather, confined spaces)Maintain physical readiness to assist in lifting/moving patients using stretchers (up to 250 lbs. with partner assist), medical equipment, and gearWalk, kneel, crawl, and climb over uneven terrain or in emergency conditionsTransport essential medical equipment (e.g., EKG monitor, ALS/med bags) without assistanceRemain calm and focused in high-stress, emotionally charged situationsREQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:AHA BLS for Healthcare providerValid NYS AEMTValid NYS Drivers LicensesHeavy Work - Exerting 50 to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 25 to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or 10 to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. It may be modified in the future and eligible for additional pay components.
