Please let us know if you require accommodations during the interview process.POSITION TITLE:Teacher, Public SafetyFLSA:ExemptSALARY:Teacher Salary ScheduleWORK DAYS:190LOCATION:Hardaway High SchoolREPORTS TO:PrincipalPRIMARY FUNCTION: The job of Teacher, Public Safety was established for the purpose of teaching skills needed in the field of law, public safety, and corrections and security to students; facilitating student success in academic and interpersonal skills through academic courses of study and by implementing state and district approved curriculum, documenting teaching and student progress/activities/outcomes; addressing specific needs of students; providing a safe and optimal learning environment; and providing feedback to students, parents and administration regarding student progress, expectations, goals, etc.Position will remain posted until filled.REQUIREMENTS:APPLICANT MUST HOLD A MINIMUM OF AN ASSOCIATE DEGREE OR HIGHER FROM A GA PSC-ACCEPTED ACCREDITED INSTITUTION, HAVE AT LEAST 2 YEARS OF OCCUPATIONAL WORK EXPERIENCE IN THE FIELD AND MEET ONE OF THE CERTIFICATION PATHS:1. Certification:PATH 1:Hold a GA Level 4 or higher professional teaching certificate. Required to fulfill other State and District requirements to renew the certificate within the first 3 years of employment.PATH 2:Hold a professional teaching certificate in another state in Law, Public Safety, Corrections and Security or a comparable field.PATH 3:If you do not have a professional teaching certificate in any state:Hold an associate's degree or higher from a GaPSC accepted institution in criminal justice, emergency management, fire science, paralegal studies, political science or a GaPSC determined equivalent; and have at least 2 years of occupational work experience in the field. Required to fulfill other State and District requirements to renew the certificate within the first 3 years of employment.2. Experience:See above Options for experience requirement3. Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:Written and oral communication; instructional strategies that connect the curriculum to the learners; student managementESSENTIAL DUTIES: * Demonstrates prompt and regular attendance.
  • Adapts classroom work for the purpose of providing students with instructional materials that address individualized learning plans within established lesson plans.
  • Administers developmental testing programs, subject specific assessments, etc. for the purpose of assessing student competency levels and/or developing individual learning plans.
  • Advises parents and/or legal guardians of student progress for the purpose of communicating expectations; student's achievements; developing methods for improvement and/or reinforcing classroom goals.
  • Assesses student progress towards objectives, expectations, and/or goals for the purpose of providing feedback to students, parents and administration.
  • Collaborates with instructional staff, other school personnel, parents and a variety of community resources for the purpose of improving the overall quality of student outcomes, achieving established classroom objectives in support of the school improvement plan.
  • Demonstrates methods required to perform classroom and/or subject specific assignments for the purpose of providing an effective program addressing individual student requirements.
  • Directs student teachers, volunteers and/or student workers for the purpose of providing an effective classroom program and addressing the needs of individual students.
  • Instructs students for the purpose of improving their success in academic, interpersonal and daily living skills through a defined course of study.
  • Maintains the classroom and lab areas for the purpose of meeting state, local and industry standards as required.
  • Manages student behavior for the purpose of providing a safe and optimal learning environment.
  • Models conversation, manners, clean-up activities, listening skills, etc. for the purpose of demonstrating appropriate industry, social and interpersonal behavior.
  • Monitors students in a variety of educational environments (e.g. classroom, field trips, conferences etc.) for the purpose of providing a safe and positive learning environment.
  • Organizes age appropriate indoor and outdoor activities for the purpose of ensuring student participation in learning activities.
  • Participates in a variety of meetings for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to perform functions.
  • Prepares a variety of written materials (e.g. grades, attendance, anecdotal records, etc.) for the purpose of documenting student progress and meeting mandated requirements.
  • Provide co-curricular CTAE Student Organization experiences to students in the CTAE program for the purpose of leadership development, advanced technical skills, and workforce readiness preparation.
  • Provide whole class and small group instruction for the purpose of presenting the grade and/or content appropriate curriculum, in alignment with the Georgia Performance Standards.
  • Reports incidents (e.g. fights, suspected child abuse, suspected substance abuse, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining personal safety of students, providing a positive learning environment and adhering to Education Code and school policies.
  • Responds to emergency situations for the purpose of resolving immediate safety concerns and/or directing to appropriate personnel for resolution.
  • Responds to questions from a variety of sources (e.g. other teachers, parents, administrators, etc.) for the purpose of resolving issues, providing information and/or direction.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by appropriate administrator.
