- Responsible for development, revision, modification, optimization, improvements, and cost-reductions to products produced in Hayward Production facilities.
- Troubleshoots vendor and production problems regarding conformance to product designs and specifications.
- Participates in product maintenance activities for CAD Designers, Lab Technicians, and other engineers as required.
- Participates in the creation of CAD models, detailed design drawings, writing of test requests and limited hands-on testing of products.
- Reviews vendor drawings, specification control drawings, and other applicable specifications to determine requirements and/or feasibility of the components.
- Resolves project issues, and reviews completed projects with the Engineering Manager.
- Interacts with production personnel to define and solve manufacturing/design issues and implement cost reduction ideas with regard to our products.
- Works with Quality Department to define problem areas and implement product improvements based on customer repair/rejection concerns.
- Participates in engineering and general design review meetings, reviews meeting notations and makes necessary changes.
- Prepares technical data such as qualification test procedures, DFMEA’s, acceptance with procedures, reports, installation and operation manuals, etc.
- Prepares presentations on projects and presents project status and challenges to all levels of management.
- Works with certifying bodies to obtain and/or maintain agency certification(s) on products.
- Coordinates as required with internal groups including Product Management, Supply Chain, Quality Assurance, Production, Accounting, and Operations.
- Adheres to all safety policies and procedures within OSHA guidelines.
- Strong interpersonal, communication and analytical skills.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to work on multiple projects
- Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Project required. Experience with Finite Element Analysis and Computational Fluid Dynamics a plus.
- 2-4yrs years of product design experience
- Experience and/or training in stage gate and VAVE methods preferred
- Materials knowledge in injection molded and blow molded plastics a plus.
- Experience with product assembly, quality, costing and BOM structure.
- Proven success participating as a member of cross-functional product development teams delivering projects on time and within budget.
- Working knowledge of 3D solid modeling CAD software (SolidWorks preferred) and analysis tools and methods, geometric tolerances and “design for assembly”.
- Working knowledge of “Failure Mode and Effects Analysis”
- Experience in “Design for Reliability” methods
- Project Management experience and training a plus
- Understanding of Safety/Regulatory Agencies such as UL, ETL, IAPMO, NSF, etc.
- Ability to travel 10%
- B.S in Mechanical Engineering
