Job City & State Raleigh, NCPosition InformationPosition OverviewEssential Job DutiesCommercial Leap Ahead for Wide Bandgap Semiconductors ( )is looking to hire two post-doctoral research scholars to support the development of III-Nitride electronic devices. These candidates are expected to contribute to device design or device manufacturing/test, or both. Key responsibilities include:
- Develop and characterize advanced GaN devices for radio frequency (RF) and high-power applications.
- Establish best practices for device design and optimization, in particular through the incorporation of new materials and operational physics.
- Be familiar with relevant fabrication methods, including photolithography, metal and dielectric deposition, etching, wafer dicing, and others as needed.
- Collaborate with students, staff, and faculty to develop and integrate robust semiconductor fabrication processes.
- Support fabrication and/or testing of compound semiconductor devices in support of program milestones
- Contribute to Research Development Kit (RDK) releases.
- Write reports for both internal and external audiences.
- Contribute to academic conference and journal publications.
- Maintain excellent documentation in the completion of duties.
- Support CLAWS facility maintenance and repairs, as needed.
- Comply with stated workplace policies.
- Communicate results, plans, and other updates to a variety of audiences.
- Adhere to and mentor others in known best practices.
- Support CLAWS activities such as tours, meetings, and conferences.

Department Required SkillsWe invite candidates with EDA/TCAD backgrounds, experimentalists, or those with both backgrounds. The successful candidate must demonstrate:
- Knowledge of wide bandgap semiconductor device properties and design, in particular for RF and high-power applications.
- A track record of publications in high-quality journals and/or conferences.
- Experience analyzing RF or high-power semiconductor devices via experimental and/or numerical methods (i.e., modeling).
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to multitask and meet deadlines with moderate supervision.
- Comfort in collaborating with students, faculty, and staff of varying experience and backgrounds.
Preferred Years Experience, Skills, Training, EducationThe successful candidate would preferably have additional experience in one or more of the following:
- TCAD device modeling, in particular using Silvaco or Synopsys tools
- Fabrication of semiconductor devices for high-power or RF applications
- Characterization of materials and devices, including failure analysis, defect inspection, radiation effects, and high-k dielectrics.
- Device behavior extraction via electrical testing, in particular using on-wafer methods.
- Lithography mask layout.
- MES and SPC systems.
- Statistical methods (e.g., DOE, GR&R) and tools (e.g., JMP, Minitab)
