Director of Campus SafetyRole OverviewGeneral Function:The Director of Campus Safety is responsible for developing and implementing security policies, coordinating safety drills, overseeing surveillance systems, managing security personnel, and collaborating with local authorities. They must ensure a safe environment for students, staff, and visitors while staying updated on security best practices and emerging threats. Strong communication and crisis management skills are essential in this role.Essential Functions:Security Operations
  • Oversee the operation, maintenance, enhancement, and monitoring of security systems, including surveillance cameras and access control.
  • Manage security personnel, providing training, scheduling, and performance evaluations to ensure a vigilant and professional team.
  • Develop and implement comprehensive security policies and procedures tailored to the unique needs of the school.
  • Provide traffic and parking control and maintain crowd control for on-campus events, such as graduation, dances, sporting events, and other special functions.
  • Respond to and investigate security incidents, coordinating with relevant authorities as needed.
  • Stay informed about the latest security trends, technologies, and threats, and adapt security protocols accordingly.
Emergency Preparedness
  • Coordinate and conduct regular safety drills, ensuring effective emergency response protocols are in place
  • Liaise with Baltimore City's Fire Department, specifically its Fire Marshalls and the Roland Park Station.
  • Conduct risk assessments and security audits to identify vulnerabilities and implement corrective measures.
Public Safety Planning and Coordination
  • Collaborate with local law enforcement and emergency services, including the Baltimore City Fire Department and Baltimore City Police Department, to establish strong working relationships and enhance overall security measures.
  • Develop and maintain a crisis management plan, ensuring clear communication channels and swift response during emergencies.
  • Foster a culture of safety and security awareness among students, faculty, staff, and visitors through education and training programs.
Reporting Lines:This position reports to the Director of FacilitiesSchedule and Location:Full-time; 40 hrs./week; Monday - FridaySkills and QualificationsEducation and ExperienceBachelor's degree in a relevant field such as Criminal Justice, Security Management, or a related discipline. Advanced degrees or certifications preferred.Proven experience in security management, with a focus on educational institutions being advantageous. A minimum of five (5) years of experience preferred.Law Enforcement Officer Safety Act (LEOSA) certification is required.Required SkillsIn-depth understanding of security protocols, emergency response procedures, and the ability to stay updated on evolving security trends and technologies.Strong leadership and management skills to oversee security personnel effectively and coordination with law enforcement, staff, and students.
