Chemistry Lab TechnicianJob DescriptionThe core function of this role is to support the registration of samples into the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS), as well as printing and labeling sets of samples and organizing them for delivery to the appropriate lab for the required testing.Responsibilities
  • Deliver samples to the relevant labs for testing and pull samples for preparation or retesting.
  • Stock and order laboratory supplies.
  • Sterilize and wash glassware.
  • Test hoods for air flow.
  • Perform pH testing and general sample preparation.
  • Complete core method training and sample registration training to understand and support the process flow in the lab.
  • Register and deliver reagents and other laboratory supplies to appropriate labs and storage areas.
  • Follow applicable Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and adhere to Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP), Good Laboratory Practice (GLP), USDA, and Quality standards for lab environments.
  • Open parcels of samples and laboratory supplies and input them into appropriate systems for use.
  • Perform 5S methodology to organize and maintain stocks of inventory, lab supplies, documents, and file forms in work areas.
  • Ensure safe use and storage of lab equipment and chemicals.
  • Participate in team meetings and communicate around deadlines and timing of testing completion.
Essential Skills
  • Experience in chemistry and wet chemistry techniques.
  • Proficiency in sample registration and laboratory organization.
  • Analytical chemistry and titration skills.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • High School Diploma with 1 year or more of laboratory or sample registration experience, or a 2-year or 4-year degree in sciences with willingness to work as a Lab Assistant for 6+ months.
  • Preference for a Bachelor's degree if possible, but not required with relevant working experience.
  • Experience in retail, customer service, or serving backgrounds is appreciated for time management and teamwork skills, though not mandatory.
Work EnvironmentThis position is based in a contract testing lab primarily serving the milk and dairy industry. The work is fast-paced, averaging 200 samples per shift, with roughly 50 samples per person. The role is within the Chemistry Department, which consists of three main labs. While this position is not directly involved in testing, it supports organizational activities across all labs. The shift is Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, with 8.5 hours per regular shift. There may be opportunities for overtime during the week.Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $20.00 - $20.00/hr.Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job
