A driven and mission-focused Controller to manage day-to-day accounting operations and ensure accurate, timely financial reporting. This a hands-on role - actively involved in journal entries, reconciliations, and the monthly close process - with a goal of closing within five business days. The ideal candidate is a strategic thinker who leads by doing, drives process improvements, strengthens internal controls, and ensures compliance with accounting standards and nonprofit regulations. The Controller also manages fund accounting, supports audits and budgeting, and supervises a small accounting team, fostering a culture of accuracy, accountability, and collaboration.Expectations of the role:
- Execute and manage the monthly close process, with the goal of achieving a consistent close within five business days
- Lead the accounting and reporting for restricted and unrestricted funds
- Ensure that restricted funding is properly allocated and reported and aligned with grant terms
- Lead all aspects of financial reporting
- Supervise, mentor, and develop a team of accounting professionals in a hands-on manner
- Work closely with VP Finance and executive leadership to provide clear, actionable financial insights that support mission-driven decisions
- Support year-end audit and form 990 work papers
- Maintain an active relationship with Jesus Christ and support the ministry through prayer and actions
- Minimum 12 years of progressive accounting experience, demonstrating increasing levels of responsibility in financial reporting, analysis, and compliance
- Minimum 5 years in a senior or leadership role within a non-profit organization
- A bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or relevant field, Master's degree preferred
- CPA certification strongly preferred
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Excel, Power BI and working knowledge of accounting software preferably Sage Intacct
- Deep knowledge of non-profit accounting and GAAP
- Excellent writing and editorial skills; approachable with strong collaboration skills
- Demonstrated ability to lead staff with clarity and compassion as well as by doing
- This is a remote position with a 5% travel component
