Job Description:POSITION: KAHSEC22509POSITION DESCRIPTION: Music Assistant - Percussion (0.5 FTE) (Fall/Winter)LOCATION OF POSITION: Kamiakin High SchoolPOSITION OPENS: July 29, 2025POSITION CLOSES: August 5, 2025 (Or until filled)EXTRA CURRICUL SALARY INFORMATION:POSITION OVERVIEW:Kamiakin High School is seeking a qualified and motivated Percussion Music Assistant to support the marching band in the fall and lead the Winter Percussion program. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in battery, front ensemble (keyboards), and auxiliary percussion, with a preference for experience in electronic percussion.This position begins in a supporting role under the direction of the head percussion instructor during the fall season and transitions to a leadership role as the Winter Percussion Director during the winter competitive season.GOALS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Fall Season (Marching Band – Support Role):Attend all Band Camp rehearsals (2 weeks in late August; dates and times TBD)Attend all weekly Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday rehearsalsAttend all Thursday/Friday night football games and Saturday competitionsInstruct and support battery and front ensemble students during rehearsals and performancesAssist with electronic and auxiliary percussion elements (preferred)Maintain and inventory Kamiakin percussion instruments and equipmentReview judge tapes from percussion and battery captions with Band DirectorCollaborate closely with percussion staff and full marching band instructional teamOther duties as assigned by Band DirectorWinter Season (Winter Percussion – Lead Role):Serve as Percussion Coordinator and primary instructor for Kamiakin Winter PercussionLead rehearsals and performances for both battery and front ensembleCollaborate with staff and designers to plan and implement competitive winter showOversee music and visual instruction, rehearsal planning, and student developmentMaintain percussion instruments and electronics for the duration of the winter seasonCommunicate effectively with students, families, and staff regarding expectations and schedulesAttend all scheduled rehearsals, performances, competitions, and planning meetingsREQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:Minimum of two (2) years of percussion coaching or instructional experiencePerformance and/or instructional experience in battery, front ensemble (keyboards), and auxiliary percussionExperience in marching ensembles (high school, drum corps, winter percussion programs, or collegiate level)Ability to teach percussion fundamentals, musicality, and ensemble technique*COMPLETION OF SAFE SCHOOLS WEB BASED TRAINING IS REQUIRED AS A CONDITION OF EMPLOYMENT*PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:Experience with electronic percussion and sound design (not required but preferred)Demonstrated leadership and organizational skills for competitive music programsThree current references or recommendation lettersPositive, student-centered teaching philosophyStrong communication skills with students, parents, and fellow staffExperience designing or contributing to competitive winter percussion programs.PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical demands described here represent those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. In-building/In-district staff will have eight school days, or eight working days during the summer to apply for a vacant position through the online application system. The employee may choose but will not be required to meet with the building administrator to understand the building practices, procedures and initiatives specific to the position to which they are applying. After eight days if an in-building employee is qualified for the position, the principal will offer the employee the position. In the case that more than one in-building employee is interested in a position, the position will be offered to the qualified and senior employee. If a position is not filled in-building after the eight day period, the position will be offered to the qualified, most senior in-district applicant, if any.
