GENERAL SUMMARY:Coordinates patient care within multiple modalities of Radiology to include general diagnostic, computed tomography, nuclear medicine, MRI and ultrasound. Works effectively and collaboratively in an integrated multidisciplinary team. Provides quality nursing care to patients in the department with strong skills in assessment, critical thinking, communication and teaching. Ensures patient safety, privacy and dignity.PRINCIPAL JOB FUNCTIONS:1. *Commits to the mission, vision, beliefs and consistently demonstrates our core values.2. Maintains accountability to assure adherence to ethical and legal standards and delivers competent care to patients of all ages.4. *Collaborates and coordinates with other disciplines to meet the needs of the patient; interacts effectively with other team members to keep them informed of changes in the condition of the patient.5. *Assesses patients, evaluates patient response to nursing/medical interventions and appropriately documents in the medical record.6. *Checks patient identity and procedure to ensure safety and accuracy; monitors and records patient condition pre,during and post procedure; identifies life-threatening conditions and takes appropriate action.7. *Delivers pre- and post-call patient care on stereotactic biopsies and other invasive breast procedures.8. *Safely accesses and administers drugs and biologicals, as ordered by the physician, in accordance with Medical Center procedures.9. *Coordinates breast biopsies and stereotactic scheduling, working with Scheduling Center.10. *Works with patients and physicians to coordinate patient callbacks for additional breast diagnostic procedures; may follow up on problem calls and problem cases as appropriate.11. Maintains breast procedural data as needed.12. Maintains a working knowledge of referral sources.13. Performs patient and family teaching as needed.14. Transports patients to and from exam rooms as required.15. *Reviews and utilizes data obtained by other members of the health care team (medical history, physical exam, diagnostic findings, psychosocial evaluations, educational and discharge factors).16. Competently uses medical equipment including monitors, infusions pumps, oxygen, suction; practices sterile technique as required.17. Competently utilizes departmental computer systems to document and retrieve patient information as appropriate.18. Advances work knowledge by participating in continuing education in-services, reading periodicals/literature and seeking ongoing development opportunities.19. Works cooperatively with purchasing and distribution to maintain department supplies using the most cost-effective methods.20. Assists with departmental orientation and student clinical education as directed.21. Performs other related projects and duties as assigned.(Essential Job functions are marked with an asterisk “*”. Knowledge of computer hardware equipment and software applications relevant to work functions.2. Knowledge of the principles of nursing theory and nursing procedures.3. Knowledge of physical assessment, aseptic and sterile techniques. IV skills, isolation techniques.4. Knowledge of radiology procedures and radiation safety.5. Skill in use of applicable materials and equipment relevant to assigned area.6. Skill in the care of a diverse range of patients including neonates, infants, pediatrics, adolescents, adults, and geriatrics.7. Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.8. Ability to react effectively and perform work under stressful and emergent situations.9. Ability to introduce and implement new and improved technologies.10. Ability to maintain confidentiality relevant to sensitive information.11. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all levels of personnel, medical staff, volunteer and ancillary departments including diverse patient populations.12. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment related to changing patient needs including working with patients with acute, chronic and complex disease processes.13. Ability to assist in the development of written policies and procedures, memoranda and performance evaluations with measurable behaviors.14. Ability to maintain regular and punctual attendance.EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:Current Registered Nurse licensure from the State of Nebraska or approved compact state of residence as defined by the Nebraska Nurse Practice Act. Minimum one (1) year patient care experience required. Previous experience in Radiology preferred.OTHER CREDENTIALS / CERTIFICATIONS:Basic Life Support (CPR) certification required. Bryan Health recognizes American Heart Association (for healthcareprofessionals), American Red Cross (for healthcare professionals) and the Military Training Network. Current certification in ACLS required. Certification in PALS desiredPHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:(Physical Requirements are based on federal criteria and assigned by Human Resources upon review of the Principal Job Functions.)(DOT) - Characterized as medium work requiring exertion of 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or a greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
