MagTech is currently hiring for a Project Engineer for a construction company in the Macomb, MI area. Please apply below if you are interested and meet the qualifications.Description:
The Project Engineer is a construction professional responsible for managing for the submittal and shop drawing process after bids are accepted and awarded through project closeout. The Project Engineer will also be responsible for procurement of materials and tracking lead times to ensure materials are ordered and delivered on time for installation. The Project Engineer will work with the Estimator, Project Manager, Superintendent, and Foreman to ensure material compliance and timely execution. The company looking to fill this position is a full-service earthwork, utility, concrete Foundations, and concrete flatwork contractor.Responsibilities:
  • Reviewing Project Documents: Thoroughly analyze bid documents including but not limited to architectural, structural, and civil drawings to understand the scope of work.
  • Quantity Takeoffs: Accurately calculate the quantities before placing orders using specialized software and estimating tools.
  • Submittals & Shop Drawings: Analyze the project specifications and plans, coordinate with Estimator, and request submittals from our suppliers and subcontractors. Monitor submittals and shop drawings to make sure customers are returning them in a timely manner. Coordinate approvals with Project Manager to ensure materials and lead times are tracked and reflected in our master job schedule.
  • Material Procurement: Monitor lead times and make sure materials are delivered prior to field labor mobilization. Monitor lead times of subcontractors in addition to self-perform work.
  • Permit Management: Figure out what permits are required for our scope of work, obtain permit, coordinate inspections with superintendents, and close out permits.
  • Plans & Specifications: Download and maintain current plans and specifications to make sure they are current and distributed to all team members.
  • Miss Dig: Call MISS DIG on all projects. If private utility locating is required coordinate with GPRS or others, prior to job mobilization.
Job Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in construction, Engineering, or equivalent relevant work experience.
  • Must have a minimum of 3 years' experience with commercial projects.
  • Excellent communication, planning and organizational skills.
  • Knowledge of all aspects of Earthwork, Underground, Concrete Foundations and/or Flatwork.
  • Experience with Bluebeam, Pro Contractor, or preferred estimating software.
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to communicate professionally both verbally and in a written format.
  • Must have strong analytical skills, pay attention to detail, solid multi-tasking skills and able to follow through and meet strict public due dates.
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting construction drawings and specifications
  • Excellent mathematical skills for calculations and quantity takeoffs
  • Experience with construction estimating software and tools
  • Effective communication skills to interact with clients and subcontractors
  • Ability to work under tight deadlines and manage multiple projects simultaneously
