FLSA STATUS NON-EXEMPTSUMMARY OF POSITION
Performs work of moderate difficulty assisting teachers or other certificated personnel in providing individual and group instruction to students; monitor and report student progress regarding behavior and performance; perform a variety of clerical duties as assigned.RESPONSIBILITIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Act as primary assistant to teacher of specialized area, including the preparation and presentation of lessons.
- Assist students in work and lessons, including those requiring bilingual, remedial, or learning disability effort.
- Observe progress and problem areas of students for appropriate referral.
- Supervise or guide students in a variety of academic or non-academic settings including one-on-one or tutorial activities.
- Manage students under supervision including the enforcement of school rules and district policies.
- Secure and maintain the confidence and cooperation of students.
- Maintain confidentiality of student and school information.
- Demonstrate an understanding, patient and receptive attitude toward students with special needs.
- Print and write legibly.
- Understand and follow oral and written directions.
- Communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships.
- Supervise and discipline students according to approved policies and procedures.
- Prepare reports and maintain files.
- Operate a computer and other related instructional or office equipment.
- Work independently and meet deadlines.
- May communicate with parents regarding student progress.
- May develop educational concepts for presentation to bilingual or handicapped students.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.

Work is performed under the following conditions:
- Exposure to climate-controlled office settings to outside weather with temperatures ranging from mild/moderate to extreme cold/heat.May involve exposure to noise levels ranging from moderate to very loud and occasional to frequent time periods.May involve work in crowded environments.
- Light physical activity in a normal office/classroom environment.
- Travel to and from schools may be required.
YES NO XACCEPTABLE EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING
One (1) year experience providing instruction to individuals or groups, preferably in an educational setting, and high school graduation or equivalent including 62 semester hours from an accredited college or university, including 6 semester hours of credit in professional education; or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the work.LICENSES/CERTIFICATESMust possess and maintain a valid Nevada Substitute Teaching Credential. Possession of or ability to obtain a valid Nevada Driver’s License. Experience working with special needs children is highly desirable.PHYSICAL AND MENTAL/INTELLECTUAL REQUIREMENTSThe physical and mental/intellectual requirements described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. - Strength, dexterity, and coordination to use keyboard and video display terminal for prolonged periods.Sedentary to heavy exertion of force involving 10-25 pounds frequently with up to 50 pounds occasionally.May involve negligible up to significant stand/walk/push/pull/carry.
