
Process and Tooling Manager

- This is an onsite role based in Flint, MI
- Establish process conditions, set standards and establish proper procedures
- Troubleshoot molding processes and material or equipment issues
- Evaluate tooling for areas of concern, areas of improvement for quality and efficiency, and recommend improvements to optimize molding, setup, and overall manufacturing
- Assist in tool design, testing and manufacturing feasibility
- Supervise and document the PM program and repair of tools
- Serve as the primary authority for approval and authorization of new or improved systems, processes, equipment and resources associated with or affecting material utilization and engineering activities
- Collect and analyze data on individual processes to drive improvements in part weight, quality, and cycle times
- Supervise process technicians/tooling department and provide training in scientific molding practices and tooling department
- Leadership role in continuous improvement and cost reduction activities
- Recommend base materials, additives as well as new materials for purchasing
- Document and maintain mold process sheets for accuracy
- Use Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, and/or other techniques to analyze process data to determine capabilities as well as improvements
- Supervise programing of robots and peripheral equipment
- Additional items as needed to ensure smooth operation of the plant
- Oversee the organization and operation of the QA testing lab
- Manage testing of materials and blends to ensure process feasibility
- Ensure all lab equipment is certified/calibrated on a timely basis
- Ability to work with others to achieve corporate goals
- Perform other related duties as assigned by management
- Bachelor's degree in plastics, engineering, chemical engineering or a related field required
- 5+ years supervisory experience in a manufacturing environment
- 5+ years experience injection molding tool design and manufacturing
- Familiar with ASTM testing standards preferred
- Well-developed organization skills
- Ability to read blueprints
- Proficient in Microsoft Office; Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint
- Lean Manufacturing/ Six Sigma knowledge and experience preferred
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Able to maintain confidential information
- Required knowledge of injection molding, plastics processing and technology
