  • You will assess structural condition of facilities to determine needs for repairs and modifications.
  • You will analyze and design extensive structural alterations.
  • You will perform quality assurance review of drawings, specifications, calculations, cost estimates, and studies prepared by A/E design firms.
  • You will create written documents such as specifications, test requirement documents, and drawings for civil engineering projects.
  • You will complete design drawings and specifications with design and drafting software.
  • You will review plans, designs, and construction phases to ensure civil engineering projects remain in scope.
  • You will investigate construction to make recommendations for remediation or corrective measures.
  • You will advise on solutions to problems encountered during projects.

QualificationsIn addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to theGS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Providing technical advice and guidance to client staff engineers on design support of architectural and engineering contracts; 2) Performing field investigations to verify and document existing structural conditions as a basis for the design of facility projects while ensuring projects are completed in accordance with specifications, criteria, policy, industry codes and standards; 3) Performing structural engineering expertise for designs on major projects for customers; 4) Managing structural engineering facilities projects with adherence to budget, schedule, and quality standards; 5) Developing complex designs and analyses utilizing advanced structural engineering software; and 6) Providing structural engineering support to active construction projects. To be acceptable, the program must: (1) lead to a bachelor's degree (or higher) in a school of engineering with at least one program accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET); or (2) include differential and integral calculus and courses (more advanced than first-year physics and chemistry) in five of the following seven areas of engineering science or physics: (a) statics, dynamics; (b) strength of materials (stress-strain relationships); (c) fluid mechanics, hydraulics; (d) thermodynamics; (e) electrical fields and circuits; (f) nature and properties of materials (relating particle and aggregate structure to properties); and (g) any other comparable area of fundamental engineering science or physics, such as optics, heat transfer, soil mechanics, or electronics. Such education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position.

Current registration as an Engineer Intern (EI), Engineer in Training (EIT), or licensure as a Professional Engineer (PE) by any State, the District of Columbia, Guam, or Puerto Rico.
