JOB SUMMARYThis position is responsible for receiving, evaluating, and disseminating calls for police, fire, EMS, mutual aid and Department of Publics Works. Additionally, this position is subject to emergency recall, on-call rotations and is subject to working nights, weekends, and holidays.ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
  • Dispatches and monitors all radios for the City including police, fire, EMS, mutual aid, and the Department of Public Works.
  • Answers incoming E-911 calls and transfers when necessary, provides information as needed and dispatches units as required.
  • Processes all calls and information into the department Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) system.
  • Assists in answering department telephone lines for non-emergency and emergency (rollover) calls.
  • Monitors and utilizes National Crime Information Center (NCIC)/Department of Motor Vehicle (DMV) computer to include processing incoming teletypes, BOLOS and hit confirmations.
  • Enters wanted/missing persons, stolen vehicles/articles into National NCIC computer system.
  • Assists patrol division and administrative staff with daily functions of the department.
  • Maintains and issues OCA numbers while entering vital information in CAD system including complaints/victim's information for both phone and walk-in customers nature of call, assigned officers, disposition of calls, time, and date, updating each CAD entry as needed.
  • Receives and collects bond moneys, makes change, completes receipts, logs in bond books and deposits money.
  • Monitors and verifies activated alarm panel, dispatches officers, contacts businesses to ensure authenticity of alarm.
  • Receives warrants and places tracking forms on warrants, enters warrants into the computer and files warrants.
  • Receives calls from the Department of Public Works, completes work order forms, dispatches personnel accordingly.
  • Contact wrecker companies for calls for services and maintains wrecker logs.
  • Maintains forms for house watches.
  • Receives and logs calls from tow companies for repossessions, private property tows, and abandoned vehicles.
  • Contact's area hospitals with emergency patient information prior to/during transport at the request of Medics/First Responders.
  • Utilizes various computers, equipment, and machinery in performance of duties to include 911 emergency system, TDD system, Computer Aided Dispatch system, SLED computer, Media Works Recorder, fax machine, telephone, police radio, alarm panel and pager encoder.
  • Serves as back up to co-workers.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
  • High School Diploma or GED;
  • One (1) year experience in the emergency dispatch operations to include the use of the telecommunication equipment, computers, or base radios (911) OR successful completion of probation as a Communications Specialist Trainee required within one (1) year of date of hire;
  • Any combination of education and experience totaling one (1) year may be considered;
  • Basic Telecommunications Officer certification required within the new hire probationary period.
  • Emergency Medical Dispatch Certification required within the new hire probationary period.
  • FEMA IS-00100 "A" and "B" certifications required within new hire probationary period.
  • CJIS awareness training required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
  • Knowledge of NCIC databases and requirements.
  • Knowledge of jurisdictional boundaries.
  • Skill in basic mathematics.
  • Ability to operate CAD equipment.
  • Ability to process information quickly, both aurally and visually.
  • Ability to provide quality customer service, to include handling difficult customers and highly stressful situations.
  • Ability to use computers and various software programs, to include Word and Excel.
  • Ability to operate computer and type at high speed accurately.
  • Ability to multi-task.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to work under pressure, in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain National Crime Information Center (NCIC) certification.
