- Works in the build, implementation, integration, and maintenance of automation and technology to assure safe and appropriate use of medications.
- Assures appropriate testing of all integrated applications.
- Supports pharmacists, physicians. nurses, and other clinicians as the resource for requests related to EMR and pharmacy system changes and additions.
- Provides EMR-related staff education/training and assist with precepting of pharmacy residents.
- Ensures that knowledge-based information, which includes the scientific literature of healthcare, is appropriately considered and evaluated prior to implementation of software changes.
- Participates in development, monitoring, and evaluation of decision support for continuous improvement, particularly for medications.
- Partners with clinicians to identify and facilitate advanced clinical decision support implementation within the electronic medical record in order to meet clinical goals.
- Participates in functional testing in human factors issues before and after system upgrades and improvements.
- Responsible for order set management: Development and maintenance of overall principles for safe design and use of order sets, with a focus on medications.
- Provides supervision and leadership for all related pharmacy technology services including Cerner, Automated Dispensing, IV Workflow, Barcoding, Packaging, Formulary, Drug Codes, Reports, and Data Mining Tools, etc.
- Implements pharmacy informatics and technical system initiatives under the directives of the Department of Pharmacy and in collaboration with Information Services and other Health System Leadership.
- Pharmacy experience (2-4 years) in a hospital setting strongly preferred. Exceptional aptitude or knowledge may be considered in lieu of experience.
- Background in Cerner, PharmNet, pharmacy automation, pharmacy computer system applications, or information technology experience preferred.
- Graduate of an ACPE accredited College of Pharmacy. Doctor of Pharmacy or other advanced degree highly preferred.
- Registered pharmacist in the state of Indiana or eligible.
- Knowledge of contemporary hospital/clinical practice and service and understanding of general hospital operations.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to interact constructively with supervisors and co-workers.
- Requires excellent organizational skills and the ability to work independently.
- Strong general clinical knowledge and expertise.
