Atlanta Technical College (ATC) is seeking highly qualified applicants for their Full-Time Instructor (Bioscience) position, in the Bioscience Technology Department, Division of Health and Public Safety. This position is located at ATC's Main Campus, located in the heart of Atlanta.Under general supervision of the Dean of Health and Public Safety Technology, the Full-Time Bioscience instructor responsibilities include developing, teaching, and implementing related lecture and laboratory life science courses, but may have other teaching assignments, as needed. This position requires a passion, demonstrated by experience, for effective teaching and advisement of diverse students plus excellent oral and written communication skills and demonstrated commitment to the college mission. The instructor will also be instrumental in the enhancement of the Bioscience Technology Program by serving on departmental and college committees, councils, working as a team member in curriculum development, assisting in course coordination, providing academic counseling and guidance to students, and participating in other college and community outreach and other community service activities consistent with the mission of Atlanta Technical College and Technical College System of Georgia.Duties and responsibilities include, but may not be limited to the following:
  • Demonstrates the use of appropriate teaching techniques.
  • Demonstrates the use of appropriate testing and grading procedures.
  • Maintains the course grade books and any other appropriate record-keeping requirements.
  • Demonstrates the effective use of oral and written communication skills.
  • Follows approved curriculum standards and course syllabi.
  • Advises and counsels students.
  • Observes and enforces the institution's policies and regulations.
  • Assists with student recruitment and job placement.
  • Evaluates the achievement of student learning outcomes.
  • Attends campus and department meetings as required.
  • Coordinates and participates in the program's advisory committee meetings.
  • Participates in the consortium committee meetings.
  • Assists in the development of reports and other requirements as needed.
  • Maintains qualifications for employment as described by the Technical College System of Georgia (TCSG) and accreditation standards.
  • Follows rules and regulations as described by the Technical College System of Georgia (TCSG) and other policies and procedures established by the institution.
  • Develops, teaches and implements related lecture and laboratory life science courses, but may have other teaching assignments as needed.
  • The instructor will also be instrumental in the enhancement of the Bioscience Technology Program.
  • Participates in other college and community outreach and other community service activities consistent with the mission of Atlanta Technical College and Technical College System of Georgia.
  • This instructor is also required to participate in commencement and convocation activities, as well as special college meetings; and
  • Perform additional duties, as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:Must possess and demonstrate the following:
  • Master’s Degree in Biology, Bioscience, Biotechnology, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Environmental Biology or related areas.
  • At least 18 semester graduate hours in biology, molecular biology, cell biology bioscience, biotechnology, biochemistry, chemistry, environmental biology or a related area.
  • At least three (3) years of related work experience in molecular biology, cell biology, bioscience, biotechnology and documented evidence of classroom, laboratory instruction or industry experience.
Preferred Qualifications:Preference may be given to candidates who, in addition to meeting the minimum qualifications, possess and demonstrate the following:
  • Doctorate Degree in Biology, Bioscience, Biotechnology, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Environmental Biology or related areas AND at least 18 semester graduate hours in biology, molecular biology, cell biology bioscience, biotechnology, biochemistry, chemistry, environmental biology or a related area.
  • At least five (5) or more years of related work experience in molecular biology, cell biology, bioscience, biotechnology or other related life sciences experience and documented evidence of classroom, laboratory instruction or industry experience.
