Responsible for all duties related to the preparation and serving of student meals and snacks Adheres to the National Breakfast, Lunch, and Snack Program guidelines and requirements in accordance with Federal, State, and Local regulations. Provide excellent customer service to all stakeholders. Maintain confidentiality within the school and the community. May be required to leave the main work site occasionally to attend meetings, trainings, etc.Job Duties / Responsibilities
  • Prepare weekly projections to order food and supplies for upcoming menu.
  • Responsible for the proper handling and storage of all food and supplies.
  • Maintain a clean and sanitary work space in the kitchen area at all times.
  • Maintains a required system of accountability.
  • Utilize correct measuring/serving utensils to ensure accurate meal portioning.
  • Responsible for the timely preparation and integrity of school meals, following standardized recipes.
  • Ensure all serving lines have equal and bountiful menu choices for all students throughout each lunch period.
  • Perform and document temperature/sanitation checks as required by law.
  • Maintain accurate production data reports on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis.
  • Update perpetual inventory lists on a daily basis to ensure that product is available for next five (5) days of production, informing Manager if more product is needed.
  • Ensure dishwashing is ongoing/completed to meet sanitation expectations at all times.
  • Properly train a back-up employee in all aspects of the Assistant Cook’s responsibilities to provide coverage during absences.
  • Assist with serving/cashiering when requested.
  • Exemplify leadership attitude ensuring that all meals are served in a timely manner.
  • Other duties as assigned
Education
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Must possess a valid Certified Professional Food Manager Certification, previously known as sanitation certificate. Certificate shall be obtained by the start of the second school term of employment.
  • Bilingual - Spanish/English (written/verbal) preferred
Experience / Knowledge
  • Minimum of one (1) year experience in projecting food needs (required).
  • Proficiency in time management, organization, and multi-tasking (required).
  • Excellent math skills (required).
  • Experience in cooking/heating in an institutional or commercial environment.
  • Hold a State of Illinois Food Handlers card and demonstrate specific knowledge-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job which includes. If Certification is not current, must be able to obtain within 30 days of employment.
Physical Demands
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time.
  • Ability to assist in lifting up to 50 lbs.
  • Wears appropriate uniform and shoes as provided
Terms of Employment
  • This is a ten (10) month SEIU position. Salary benefits as per current collective bargaining agreement and approved by the Board of Education.
  • Maintain a positive attendance record as specified in FNS Department Handbook & SEIU contract.
  • Must be able to adhere to all Blackout dates according to the Food and Nutrition Calendar.
  • Must complete all FNS and District mandated GCN tutorials, monthly safety training, and department sponsored training per USDA requirements by their due dates.
  • Attend all back to school and professional development meetings/trainings as required.
Salary Information
  • $17.00 per hour
  • 7:30-2:15 (6.75 Hrs)
