- Melt Design Engineer, working on new processes and platform designs to extend current platform capability and life, and develop new platforms for new businesses or glass compositions.
- Develop concepts, either through software (SolidWorks) or experimental work (labs/existing platforms). Owns the design from concept to implementation.
- Track Intellectual Property of the new processes and designs and ensure documentation.
- Provide design support and fabrication support for the different MAPs and S&T groups in Corning.
- Work with research melter, division engineering and manufacturing staff to understand businesses needs and work to create synergies if possible.
- Learn from and work under the direction of Design experts (Associate/Sr. Associate/Fellow) to provide calculations, designs and assessments.
- Hands on operation of new equipment, from fabrication to installation to startup.
- Creation and execution of experiment plans when applicable.
- Provide models and drawing packages to suppliers, inside customers and rebuild teams and support the teams during the different phases of design.
- Deliver documentation (reviews/RTR) and capture IP as needed
- Build network and reputation across organization
- Travel Requirements:10-25% annually, domestic and international such as Kentucky, France and Asia
- BS in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Engineering, Electrical Engineering or related discipline
- Experience with mechanical design engineering
- Experience with high-temperature engineering applications
- Knowledge of FEA softwares, preference for COMSOL.
- Able to apply critical thinking and engineering principles to solve complex problems.
- Literature searches and report writing.
- Succinct communication of complex ideas.
- Ability to work in a highly matrixed and diverse organization across research, development, engineering and manufacturing.
- Some knowledge of electrical and materials engineering experience would be a plus.
- Capable of analyzing autopsied equipment and can make assumptions/conclusions on the possible improvements.
