Position DescriptionDEFINITION:To provide classroom and/or online instruction to students enrolled in the Social and Human Services Applied Science Degree and certificate programs.SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED:
  • Receives direct supervision and/or technical direction from the Social and Human Services Program Director
  • May occasionally receive support and technical assistance from the Dean of Health and Human Services and/or Department Chair, Allied Health and Human Services.
  • Exercises no supervision
Duties & Responsibilities (Essential Functions)ESSENTIAL AND OTHER IMPORTANT FUNCTIONS STATEMENT:Essential and other important responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to the following:
  • Provide classroom and lab instruction that reflects varied learning styles of students.
  • Provide face-to-face instruction in the classroom and online.
  • Develop class outlines and establish guidelines for various courses; prepare lesson plans and supplemental teaching materials; and schedule classroom activities.
  • Encourage a variety of teaching strategies to foster critical thinking and clinical applications.
  • Develop course and student learning objectives.
  • Implement lesson plans and instruct classroom activities.
  • Supervise the use of and operation of various instructional equipment; develop laboratory assignments to provide hands on experience as appropriate.
  • Utilize supplemental materials to enhance textbook lessons.
  • Develop and prepare tests and other assessments to evaluate student academic performance; grade and record individual scores.
  • Maintain accurate records of student attendance and performance.
  • Maintain and submit all required paperwork in an accurate and timely fashion, including but not limited to: attendance forms and grade rosters.
  • Stay abreast of new developments and changes in various assigned academic fields; participate in professional development programs, workshops, seminars and other continuing education programs as appropriate.
Other Important Functions:
  • Assess the relevancy and impact of various lessons and recommend improvements as needed.
  • Oversee and participate in work-based learning experiences and assignments; travel with students to provide assistance and instruction as appropriate.

QualificationsQUALIFICATIONS:Knowledge of:
  • Professional skills, knowledge and attributes within the Social and Human Services profession. These include, but are not limited to: criteria for certification; private and public agency employment requirements; teaching to a diverse student base, etc.
  • Classroom and laboratory instructional techniques and procedures.
  • Principles and procedures of academic and instructional techniques and procedures.
  • Current trends, research, and development in the area of assignment.
  • Principles and techniques involved in test development and administration.
Ability To:
  • Work independently in the absence of supervision.
  • Understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Interpret and apply College goals, objectives, policies, procedures, rules, and regulations.
  • Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
  • Establish and maintain cooperative-working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
  • Maintain effective audio-visual discrimination and perception needed for:
  • Making observations
  • Reading and writing

  • Operating assigned equipment
  • Handling varied tasks simultaneously
  • Maintain physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities, which may include the following:

EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING GUIDELINES:Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:Minimum Education/Training:
  • Master's degree with a major in Human Services, Psychology, Social Work, Counseling, or other closely related field from a regionally accredited college or university.
  • Proficient in various computer programs such as Microsoft Office Suite.
Minimum Experience:
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience in Social and Human Services education or minimum of three years in the profession.
Preferred Education, Certification, Training, Experience, Skills:
  • Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor (CADC), Certified Substance Abuse Counselor (CSAC), or Licensed Clinical Addiction Specialist (LCAS)
  • Certified Clinical Supervisor (CCS) or Clinical Supervisor Intern (CSI)
  • Minimum of two years teaching in higher education.
  • Current professional development in educational methodology.
