- Collects and records patient data including height, weight, BMI, temperature, pulse, respiration rate, blood pressure, pulse oximetry, and peak flow measurement, according to established policies and procedures.
- Performs lab tests, including finger sticks, after receiving appropriate training and verification of competency.
- Administers immunizations and medications per provider's order after a licensed healthcare professional verifies the correct medication and dosage.
- Performs venipuncture and PPD skin placements, documents the measurement of the PPD skin test, and reports this information directly to the provider or Registered Nurse.
- Applies and removes bandages and dressings.
- Provides fluoride varnish treatment to patients ages 1 month to 20 years during wellness or medical visits, following approved protocols to prevent dental caries and support preventive health efforts.
- Applies principles of aseptic technique and infection control in accordance with established policies and procedures.
- Provides basic health information and education to patients following established protocols.
- Prepares examination rooms by ensuring cleanliness and stocking necessary supplies.
- Accurately documents patient information, medical history, and treatment plans in electronic health record (EHR) systems.
- Assists with patient education regarding medications, treatments, and follow-up care.
- Coordinates referrals to specialists and diagnostic testing as needed.
- Ensures compliance with infection control protocols and maintains a safe, clean environment.
- Assists with administrative tasks such as scheduling appointments, answering phones, and verifying insurance information.
- Accurately files patients’ lab results, X-rays, EKG results, and other documents after provider review and sign-off.
- Participates in staff meetings, including quality improvement sessions, case conferences, and in-service training.
- Participates in all safety programs, which may include assignment to an emergency response team.
- Performs other duties and tasks as required or assigned.
- Participate in JWCH’s customer service training called AIDET on an annual basis.
- Demonstrate an understanding of AIDET (Acknowledge, Introduce, Duration, Explanation, and Thank You) to apply in patient encounters or team discussions.
- Utilize the AIDET communication framework to communicate with patients and team members in a manner that reduces patient anxiety, increases patient compliance, and improves clinical outcomes.
- Graduation from an accredited Medical Assistant school with a current MA certificate
- Verification of appropriate hours in approved Medical Assistant course to perform venipuncture
- Current BLS certificate from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively with patients and healthcare professionals.
- Ability to multitask, prioritize responsibilities, and work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
- Two years’ experience in an ambulatory clinic preferred
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.
