Assist in the responsibility for day-to-day operations of the Motor Pool. Assist with the management of the automated fuel system and fuel credit card program. Through our agency’s learning management system, you have access to hundreds of computer-based training and instructor-led courses.Where You Will Work:FDOT District Four – District Maintenance3400 West Commercial BoulevardFort Lauderdale, FL 33309Annual Salary Range:$48,376.84 - $62,605.33A Competitive Area Differential (CAD) additive in the amount of $1,248.00 will be added to the annual salary.Your Specific Responsibilities:Assist in the responsibility for day-to-day operations of the Motor Pool, including checking vehicles in/out daily or weekly, optimizing utilization of all Motor Pool vehicles, making reservations for specialty vehicles (van, 4x4). Ensure Motor Pool vehicles are: fueled, cleaned, equipped with appropriate number of safety vests, first aid kits, paper towels, fuel cards, and the latest vehicle information paperwork (including safety packets). Ensure Motor Pool vehicles are properly cleaned and maintained. Evaluates mobile equipment for efficiency, safety and life-to-date costs. Coordinate and handle the delivery of Motor Pool vehicles to and from the shop or other repair facility for timely Preventative Maintenance (PM) service and/or repairs.Assist the District Fleet Manager in managing all mobile equipment assigned to the District. Assist in the acquisition, disposal, and replacement of passenger vehicles, heavy equipment, and shop equipment. Uses latest available technical mechanical engineering data relative to evaluating the mechanical/electrical components, systems & internal combustion engines of equipment operated by the Department. Assist in the development of specifications. Assist in overseeing shop supervisors and assisting in overseeing maintenance/repair of all mobile equipment in the District. Uses mechanical engineering knowledge to assist the District Fleet Manager to analyze equipment failure and advise corrective action for future prevention. Recommends improvements in future specifications.Assists the Fleet Manager with vehicle utilization policy and implementation throughout the District. Under the direction of the Fleet Manager monitors, tracks, and helps oversee the optimum utilization of all vehicles within the District.Assist with the management of the automated fuel system and fuel credit card program. Assist in mobile equipment fuel purchases, and the review/approval of fuel transaction data from department fuel sites and commercial sites. Assist in maintaining automated fuel system files, motorlogs, and records. Assist in the renewal of expiring vehicle fuel credit cards and obtaining replacement vehicle fuel credit cards. Assist in assigning employees personal identification numbers (PIN) for Florida Department of Transportation fuel credit cards.Assist the District Fleet Manager with the SunPass program. Assist in obtaining transponders for the District fleet. Install transponders in Motor Pool vehicles, or assist in distribution of transponders to Operations Centers or other cost centers in the District.The Successful Candidate will have the following required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:Knowledge of:
  • Fleet Management (passenger vehicles and heavy equipment)
  • Personal computers, including: outlook, word, excel, and mainframe databases
Skills in:
  • Managing a procurement budget
  • Interpreting and analyzing computer reports and spreadsheets
  • Working with internal and external customers in a tactful and courteous manner
Ability to:
  • Coordinate multifaceted processes involving other managers and staff, such as procurement, utilization and disposal of fleet vehicles and mobile equipment units
  • Make critical evaluations of vehicle/equipment of vehicle/equipment condition and service
  • Make informed judgements as to repairs versus replacement
  • Train and coach others in the use of computer systems and programs, such as assisting shop supervisors with the fleet equipment management information program
  • Communicate effectively both in verbal and written form
  • Analyze and interpret engineering data
Other Job-Related Requirements:While on-duty status, the position’s incumbent may be required to drive a state owned or leased vehicle to perform the duties of this position. A valid class E driver’s license is required. Responsible for adhering to the provisions and requirements of section 215.422, F.S., related State Comptroller's rules, and Department of Transportation's invoice processing and warrant distribution procedures.Minimum Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma or Certificate of High School Equivalency and Class E Driver’s License.
This position requires a valid Class E driver license with an acceptable driving record in accordance with the Department’s Driver’s Record Requirements Policy. An unacceptable driving record is defined as any of the following: * three (3) or more moving violations in the past three (3) years that accumulate three (3) or more points per violation;
  • any two (2) convictions of reckless driving in the past three (3) years;
  • a suspension or revocation of the driver license for moving violations in the past three (3) years; and
  • a suspension or revocation for refusal to take a sobriety test, or any suspension or revocation for a DUI conviction, in the past four (4) years.
