ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND TASKS REQUIRED BY THIS JOB
- Development and oversight of the parish faith formation program(s) for children, youth, young adults, and adults
- Recruit and hire contracted speakers and presenters
- Responsible for the recruitment, training, supporting and evaluation of volunteer catechists in accordance with parish and Archdiocese of Detroit policies and guidelines
- Responsible for the formation of catechists in accordance with the Archdiocese of Detroit policies and guidelines, and maintenance of current certification files on each catechist and religion teacher of the Catholic School (if one exists)
- Collaboration with the pastor and other parish staff members to develop vision and goals for parish evangelization and faith formation
- Responsible for the preparation and coordination of the Sacraments of First Reconciliation, First Eucharist, and Confirmation
- Responsible for oversight of sacramental record keeping
- Responsible for selection of the parish and/or school catechetical texts and resources as approved for use by the Archdiocese of Detroit
- Responsible for the preparation and management of the Christian Education section of the parish budget with the approval of the Pastor
- Responsible for overseeing and implementation of Safe Environments policies and programs as required by the Archdiocese of Detroit
- Serves as a subject matter expert for parish programs in the areas of evangelization and catechesis
- Organize and facilitate regularly scheduled meetings with faith formation staff and volunteers
- Participates in parish, vicariate, and archdiocesan meetings and functions
- Participates in designated national, regional, and archdiocesan catechetical organizations
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree or a certificate in Theology, Pastoral Studies, or Catechetics;
- Certified DRE or in the process of certification through the Archdiocese of Detroit
- Practicing Catholic and in full communion with the Church
- A person of faith with a heart for evangelization
- Able to maintain all information as highly confidential
- Experienced and skilled in planning, directing, organizing, implementing and evaluating faith formation programs
- Compliance with criminal background checks and Safe Environment Policies
