Position Title: Regional Advisory Board MemberPosition Type: Volunteer Board MemberLocation: NYC, LA, MIAAbout America On Tech:is an award-winning, early pipeline technology talent accelerator on a mission to decrease the racial wealth gap by creating pathways for underestimated students to thrive in technology and innovation. To date, we have worked with 5,000+ students by leveraging the time, talent and expertise of software engineers and developers to teach our tuition-free courses and help provide work-based internship and learning programs to promote the advancement of underrepresented students into technology. Founded in 2014, AOT’s work has been featured in Forbes, CNN, The Huffington Post, TechCrunch, BET and other leading publications. AOT has also been awarded by Forbes 30 Under 30, Wells Fargo and the Brooklyn Borough President’s Office.Who We Are Looking For:The Regional Advisory Boards serves as a critical community champion of AOT in their respective cities. Members of the Regional Advisory Boards share in service to our mission by:
  • Providing their professional expertise, consult and advice to inform the direction of AOT
  • Giving their time to volunteer with the organization’s programs throughout the year
  • Connecting the AOT to regional or national resources (both financial and in-kind)
  • Personally supporting the organization philanthropically (both financial and in-kind)
  • Collectively fundraise 10% of the regional’s operating budget
Responsibilities Include:
  • Allow the organization to publicize their name and participation on communications
  • Attendance/participation in 60 minute RAB meetings every six weeks
  • Posting on social media to support and promote the organization's initiatives
  • Supporting and enabling the internship program within their organization (if possible)
  • Commit to at least 2 strategies to support the region, including but not limited to confirming volunteers, providing space for events, creating internship pipelines, participating in fundraising campaigns, or securing opportunities to promote the AOT name in region (speaking engagements, pro-bono advertising credit, etc.)
  • Volunteer with the organization at least once a year to create more proximate experiences with students in AOT programs
  • Participate in annual in-person RAB retreat and all six regional board meetings throughout the year virtually
  • Act annually in some significant way to support the organization’s mission by fundraising or giving a minimum of:
  • 2024: $2,500 per year by 12/31
  • 2025: $2,625 per year by 12/31
  • 2026: $2,757 per year by 12/31
  • 2027: $2,895 per year by 12/31
  • ​Attending and promoting IDA in your region on social media
  • Purchase 2 tickets for you and a guest to come to our annual IDA event in your region (purchasing of tickets will be included in the give/get)
  • Work collectively with other members to fundraise 10% of the region’s operating budget
  • Meet at least once a year with AOT to review board member responsibilities/discuss their personal involvement in detail
Qualifications:
  • Have 10+ years of professional experience and/or are considered a mid- to senior-level leader within their current companies and organizations
  • Reflect AOT’s organizational mission and are committed to the young people in our programs, their families and the larger community that supports their promise and potential
  • Have a strong ethical fiber and operate with high levels of integrity as it relates to being an advocate for equity and justice
  • Plays well with others in a team environment, as collaborating with other board members is a key component of this role
  • Has the time, talent and treasure to commit and fulfull the duties outlined in the role responsibilities section of this document
  • Has a willingness to leverages their networks and connections with people to fundraise, open doors, and donate to AOT
  • Must be able to make a personal financial contribution each year during their term to help meet their individual and collective board fundraising goals
