2. Job Summary
  • The Mill Entry operates the overhead electric traveling crane to lift/move heavy equipment and material.
3. Immediate Supervisor
  • This position reports directly to the Shift Supervisor
4. Standards
  • Complying with policies and procedures.
  • Interacting with other employees, suppliers, and customers in a courteous and professional manner.
  • Communicating work progress and significant issues to the immediate supervisor.
5. Responsibilities
  • Tests equipment including brakes, hoist limits, sirens, lights and crane equipment prior to each operation. Observes personnel and equipment in the area of lifted objects to determine safe movement.
  • Observes personnel and equipment in the area of lifted objects to determine safe movement.
  • Makes lifts when signaled by maintenance or operating personnel on the ground.
  • Checks grease system for function, leaks, failure or lack of grease and notifies maintenance of any problems.
  • Observes the condition of cables and reports any problems (fraying or broken cables) to maintenance.
  • Reports any unusual mechanical or electrical conditions to maintenance for correction.
  • Makes minor adjustments.
  • Completes a daily crane report.
  • Determine load weights and check them against lifting capacities to prevent overload.
  • Operates a crane in a safe manner to provide service to maintenance and operating personnel.
  • Sounds siren to warn personnel in path of lifted objects.
  • Responsible for completing any assignments given by Supervisor, even those assignments not specifically listed in this job description.
6. Qualifications
  • Must be able to read and write
  • Must be trained in the safe operation and maintenance of a Crane.
  • Must be locally certified by training and testing to operate Cranes.
  • Must be able to pass the physical exam for crane operators which include vision test and medical history.
  • Pass required physical
  • Training (a) under a qualified operator and (b) classroom training
  • Field Training under a competent operator
  • Field evaluation test to be a designated operator.
7. Working Conditions
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts. The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals and outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually very loud.
8. Physical Requirements
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to sit; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and taste or smell. The employee is occasionally required to sit. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move more than 100 pounds.
9. Training Requirements
  • Must be trained and licensed to operate forklift and trained to operate bridge crane.
