You will be responsible for three main duties: hosting, digital content, and reporting.Responsibilities:
  • Familiarity with FCC rules governing broadcast program content (radio only).
  • Ability to work with deadlines and under moderate stress in live broadcast/closed circuit program situations.
  • Pleasant voice and speaking manner, clear diction.
  • Ability to operate complicated mixing board and/or control panel in proscribed sequences
  • Some professional broadcast experience preferred.
  • Operate control panel and mixing board.
  • Follows instructions on daily operations log to load audio as necessary to air programming.
  • Transcribe audio
  • Proof copy for grammar and style
  • Publish web and social media posts
  • Perform basic audio and image editing
  • News research using the internet, newspapers, and other news sources
  • Produce and deliver newscasts
  • Produce newscast reports and occasional feature length stories using field recording kits and in-studio equipment and computers
  • Upload audio, video, and text content to website, podcasting platforms, and social media platforms as appropriate
  • Support and assist reporting and production by other news staff
  • Other duties as assigned
Required Skills
  • Pleasant voice and speaking manner, clear diction
  • Ability to program segments and operate control panels and mixing boards to place program information on-the-air Comprehensive knowledge of journalism standards of balance, fairness, and fact checking
  • Comprehensive knowledge of recording, microphones, camera and other video equipment
  • Excellent communication, writing, interviewing and editing skills
  • Ability to read well with an authoritative and comforting voice
  • Comprehensive knowledge of language and pronunciation of names and words
  • Ability to perform under deadline and live-production pressure
  • Ability to adapt quickly and professionally when breaking news interrupts the daily routine
  • Comprehensive knowledge of web content management systems and protocols
  • Knowledge of capabilities and methods of interactive social media
  • Ability to edit audio and use web-based social media platforms
  • Must be able to sit for prolonged periods of time
  • Shifts may be scheduled in early morning, late night, or weekends
  • Familiarity with web publishing or social media management
  • Familiarity with social media platforms like Facebook and Instagram
  • Familiarity with podcasting
Minimum Required Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in journalism or related field
Preferred Qualifications
  • Two (2) years on-air experience
