JOB OPENINGCITY OF FARMINGTONJOB POSTING #37: SUMMER RECREATION CLASS LEADERNUMBER OF VACANCIES: 6DEPARTMENT/DIVISION: PRCAWORK LOCATION: Farmington Recreation CenterHIRING RANGE: $12.50/HourPAY CLASS: SeasonalDAYS WORKED: Monday-FridayHOURS WORKED: VariedTYPE OF POSITION: SeasonalAPPLICATION WILL BE RECEIVED UNTIL: Open Until FilledJOB DUTIESResumes submitted without a City of Farmington application will not be considered in our job selection process.INTERVIEWING HELD MID APRIL, HIRING END OF MAY 2024ESSENTIAL DUTIESWorks under the supervision of the Recreation Program Supervisor and the Recreation Program Assistant.Works with a team of six (6) Class Leaders to create, organize, and instruct assigned sports classes for a Summer Recreation Program for children and youth. The classes will include, but may not be limited to, basketball, volleyball, soccer, pickleball, and t-ball. Leaders will instruct students in basic rules and skills in each of these sports.Assists in facilitating special events throughout the Summer Recreation Program which may include, but not limited to, a Summer Kickoff Party, Field Day, and Summer Carnival.Using excellent customer service skills, establishes and maintains effective working relationships with other staff, parents, and all members of the general public.Provides a safe and healthy environment, both physically and mentally, to ensure the operation of a quality program for the children and youth.Follows all rules and procedures described and ensures that all children and youth are aware of the rules.Takes responsibility for the quality and quantity of the supplies, equipment and materials needed for the programs.Reports all accidents to the Recreation Program Supervisor and/or Recreation Program Assistant, and completely fills out proper accident/incident forms.Must be able to take charge and direct children in case of an emergency.May help with the supervision of part‑time volunteers and/or other staff.Attendance at work is an essential function of this position.NON-ESSENTIAL DUTIESThe duties listed above are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work that may be performed. The omission of specific statements of duties does not exclude them from the position if the work is similar, related or a logical assignment to the position.QUALIFICATIONSThis position is subject to the City of Farmington's Drug and Alcohol Free Workplace Policy which includes: pre-employment testing, post-accident testing, random testing, reasonable suspicion testing, return to duty testing, and follow-up testing.Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record for the past three years or state of current residency.Knowledge of lesson plans and children's programming, preferred.Ability to work well with children.Certification in First Aid, CPR, and AED, preferred.Ability to assist in developing, coordinating, and directing varied activities for children and youth.Ability to establish and maintain working relationships with co-workers, supervisors, other City personnel, and the public.Ability to follow verbal and or written instructions.Ability to work under stress and handle stressful situations.Ability to meet deadlines.Ability to operate tools and equipment listed.TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USEDIncludes, but is not limited to: telephone; various sports equipment; kitchen utensils and equipment; video/audio equipment, craft supplies and other equipment involved in children's activities.PHYSICAL DEMANDSThe physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.
