- Associate degree or higher; or must have completed at least two (2) years of postsecondary study, or qualified status via the PDE Paraeducator Credential of Competency.

- Demonstrate aptitude for the tasks involved / Proficiency to excel on the district administered test
- Demonstrate proficiency in the use of Microsoft Products and other office equipment or software
- Demonstrate the ability to work in a diverse environment and flexibility to handle changing priorities.
- Ability to prioritize identified needs of students by following directives of classroom teachers, staff and peers, as well as the goals of the IEP.
- Participates in training as required for performance of job. This may include but is not limited to ABA and Safety Care.
- Provides one-to-one and small group assistance and redirection to maintain task focus and to minimize disruptions to class instruction; implement strategies as indicated in the student’s IEP/Positive Behavior Support Plan.
- Assist/supervise students with disabilities as directed by classroom teacher or administrator with reinforcement of skills introduced by the classroom teacher.
- Assists assigned student(s) who have identified needs for self-help or self-care/personal hygiene skills such as toileting, diapering, dressing, feeding and other personal care needs as designated in the IEP.
- Assists the student(s) in the use of Assistive Technology (AT) as prescribed by the IEP team.
- Monitors, supervises and assists the students throughout the day in the classroom, lunch, field trips, assemblies, from class to class, bathroom, recess, therapies, regular education classes, and his/her transportation if applicable.
- Assists the teachers by directing the movement of regular and special needs students during emergency drills, assemblies, and special classes.
- Assists with clerical and organizational tasks and data collection related to IEP progress monitoring, records and file maintenance, arranging bulletin boards, displays and materials and completes daily service logs for ACCESS billing as appropriate.
- Functions as a source of information and assistance to any student or substitute teacher assigned during the absence of the classroom teacher; communicates information to the regular teachers from the special education teachers regarding the student(s) assigned.
- Checks notebooks, corrects papers and supervises testing and make-up work as assigned by the teacher.
- Instructional Paraeducators are required to accumulate a minimum of 20 professional development hours each school year.
- Performs other duties as directed by the building principal or classroom teacher.
