Come join our team!Due to the nature of our business and a heavy industrial market, Bodycote deems this position to be safety-sensitivePosition Summary:Based in (South Windsor, CT or Fairfield, OH), the Engineering Manager will perform essential job functions associated with heat treatment and associated infrastructure under the direction of the Vice President of Operations, ADE East, to meet customer specifications and standards, including assigning other employees as needed.Essential Job Functions (Duties and Responsibilities): The primary duties consist of, but are not limited t,o the following.
  • Coordinate maintenance planning and purchasing of equipment with local General Managers and the Capital Projects Manager.
  • Support capital projects as directed.
  • Build strong working relationships with critical equipment and infrastructure suppliers /contractors.
  • Build and support a strong community of maintenance professionals at the site, instilling collaboration, innovation, and cross-plant resource support.
  • Set guidelines for plant preventative and predictive maintenance systems and critical tasks. Ensure maintenance is tracked and documented on the CMMS platform/database, which includes upgrades, repairs, and budget. Continuously monitor MTTR (mean time to repair) and deploy procedures and training to continually reduce repair time.
  • Develop, deploy, train, and enforce safety procedures and all applicable regulations. Oversee the safety and appearance of facilities and equipment.
  • Provides engineering expertise and management oversight in the areas of process equipment procurement and installation (including heat treatment furnaces, heavy industrial equipment, HVAC, building layout and construction, and utility connections) in conjunction with the engineering, purchasing, and operations teams.
  • Recommends, creates, and implements maintenance training guidelines in conjunction with the SHE group to address the development of maintenance technicians.
  • Interfaces with equipment manufacturers and vendors to maintain a positive working relationship, remain current on new equipment capabilities and technology advancements, while leveraging cost savings where it makes sense.
  • Develops and communicates KPI reporting for executive review, ensures action, and controls.
  • Supporting capital projects in conjunction with the Capital Projects Manager, assist in developing budgets associated with the strategic plan. This includes mapping out short and long-term engineering project needs and associated project/program funding requirements.
  • Supervises the preparation of regular reports on project progress and special reports dealing with unique circumstances or problems, including recommendations for their resolution.
  • This position is responsible for a financial function of the business and, as such, will perform duties in a fiscally responsible manner.
  • Have experience or be willing to learn lean and sustainability principles.

  • This position must satisfy ITAR compliance requirements; therefore, candidates must be U.S. Citizens or Permanent Resident cardholders.
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or equivalent experience in vacuum furnaces and infrastructure.
  • Minimum 10 years maintenance/installation management experience with multi-plant responsibility. Demonstrated understanding and ability to apply quality, engineering, and maintenance theories and best practices across the business.
  • Minimum 5 years' experience leading large teams of engineers that are decentralized.
  • Demonstrated experience in PFMEA development and deployment, problem solving (5 whys, 8 D, Fault tree analysis, etc.).
  • Hands-on experience in the maintenance of heat treat systems is preferred.
  • Troubleshooting and working knowledge of PLCs, hydraulics, pneumatics, etc., is required.
  • Demonstrated understanding of plant operations and processes is required.
  • Demonstrated Greenfield experience bringing online capital equipment in manufacturing facilities, along with the implementation of major capital projects.
  • Must have or be willing to obtain Six Sigma Black Belt.
  • Demonstrated success implementing or leading world-class processes, such as lean manufacturing.
  • Excellent communication and partnership skills, which are essential for interacting and communicating effectively with key stakeholders at all levels across the company to manage, inform, and influence outcomes.
  • Must be able to read and interpret blueprints, specifications, and purchase orders, and provide guidance to sites on the same. Considered the expert within the organization and capable of discussions both inside and outside of the organization.
  • Knowledge and hands-on experience of computer applications, including Microsoft Suites such as Project, Office, Excel, and PowerPoint, and CADD.
  • Must be a self-directed individual capable of multi-purpose activities.
Physical & Mental Demands: The following physical and mental demands consist of, but are not limited to the following.
  • Must be able to work in a sitting position for extended periods of time (at desk, while driving, and/or on airplane travel) in an office/industrial environment.
  • The ability to travel up to 75% via plane and car.
  • Manual dexterity to perform data entry functions.
  • Ability to bend, pull, stoop, and reach to perform functions.
  • Ability to lift 25-30 lbs.
  • May be exposed to heat, fumes, noise, and humidity, etc.
  • Must have the cognitive and mental capacity to perform essential job functions.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
  • Visual acuity to read documents, computer screens, files, etc.
  • Ability to hear in person and via phone.
