General Statement of JobUnder occasional supervision, operates moderate-sized equipment in the maintenance of public parks and facilities, City's drainage system, or the maintenance of right-of-ways. Performs related work as required. May supervise crew in Heavy Equipment Operator's absence.Specific Duties and ResponsibilitiesEssential Functions:Operates a tractor, mowers, bush hog and other equipment to maintain public grounds and facilities. Operates vehicles, dump trucks, street sweepers, tractors, front end loader, bobcat, bush hog, various mowers, aerator, backhoe, blower, edger, and a variety of hand and power tools. Exercises care and safety in the use of assigned equipment and vehicles.Assists in inspecting parks and facilities and determining maintenance / repair requirements.Performs maintenance work as assigned to maintain grounds and facilities, including the maintenance & repair of irrigation systems. Performs emergency repairs as needed.Inspects assigned vehicle both pre- and post-trip; cleans and empties vehicle; performs equipment maintenance and repair work as necessary.Prepares and submits various logs, records and reports as required.Removes trees, overgrown vegetation, debris, etc. from ditches that may impede the flow of storm water.Interacts and communicates with various groups and individuals such as the immediate supervisor, other City personnel, co-workers, customers, & general public.Assists in the proper set-up of safety devices (cones, barricades, signs, etc.)Installs, maintains, repairs and cleans culverts, French drains and pipes; digs drainage ditches.Repairs sidewalks, ditch banks and curbs as necessary.Mows ditches, ditch banks and other areas as assigned. Sprays fence lines. Trims bushes and trees.Minimum Education and TrainingRequires a high school diploma or GED equivalent supplemented by five (5) years of experience in maintenance and equipment operations, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Must possess a valid state CDL Class B license with proper endorsements and maintain a valid state of Florida driver's license. May require a Storm Water Operator Level 1 Certification. Must possess or obtain the most current FEMA 100, 200, and 700 Incident Command System certifications within 6 months of appointment to the job.Minimum Qualifications and Standards RequiredSkill Requirements:Has knowledge of the methods, procedures and policies of the Public Works & Engineering Department as they pertain to the performance of duties of the Equipment Operator II. Has the ability to comprehend, interpret and apply regulations, procedures and related information. Has knowledge of general maintenance procedures and techniques. Has knowledge of the standard equipment, tools, materials and practices of the industry.Is able to operate machinery with skill and safety. Has skill in the care and use of required equipment and tools. Is able to make minor repairs and adjustments to equipment. Knows how to react calmly and quickly in emergency situations. Is able to distinguish between various types of plants, trees, shrubs, grasses, ground covers, etc. Is able to prepare simple records and reports.Is able to read and interpret a variety of materials pertaining to the responsibilities of the job. Is able to analyze problems that arise on the job and make valid recommendations. Is able to take the initiative to complete the duties of the position without the need of direct supervision. Is able to use independent judgment in performing routine tasks. Is able to provide assistance to supervisors and co- workers as needed. Has the ability to learn and utilize new skills and information to improve job performance and efficiency. Knows how to perform duties in a courteous manner and communicate effectively with co-workers and the public.Physical Requirements:Must be physically able to operate a vehicle, trucks, heavy equipment, hand and power tools, etc. Tasks involve the regular and sustained performance of moderately physically demanding work, typically involving some combination of climbing and balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching and crawling, and that involves the lifting, carrying, pushing and pulling of moderately heavy objects and materials (20-50 pounds) and occasionally heavier objects and materials (up to 100 pounds).Responsibilities:Maintains high standards of accuracy in exercising duties and responsibilities. Exercises immediate remedial action to correct any quality deficiencies that occur in areas of responsibility.
