Our top-tier benefits and great retirement packages can help you build a rewarding career and lasting future with the State of Illinois.Position OverviewThis position is responsible for very complex foundations and soils analyses involved in the design of major structures; the review of analyses for projects prepared by consultants; the preparation of construction specifications and procedures; and the investigation, analysis, and resolution of complex soils and foundation related construction problems.Essential Functions
- Prepares and/or reviews in-house prepared foundation and retaining wall plans as well as repair plans for failing foundations, walls, and slopes.
- Prepares and reviews in-house Structure Geotechnical Reports (SGR).
- Reviews, analyzes, and evaluates SGRs prepared by consultants.
- Prepares and reviews very complex geotechnical designs for major structures.
- Reviews, analyzes, and evaluates very complex geotechnical designs prepared by consultants.
- Performs field investigations and analyses of very complex foundation problems for design or construction.
- Monitors, reviews, or prepares feasibility studies of complex retaining wall systems.
- Reviews and recommends approval of cofferdams and other soil retaining structures.
- Prepares construction specifications and special provisions for geotechnical designs.
- Performs duties in compliance with departmental safety rules. Performs all duties in a manner conducive to the fair and equitable treatment of all employees.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Current registration as a Licensed Professional Engineer in the state of Illinois.
- Four years of experience in civil engineering.
- Ability to develop and maintain cooperative relationships with coworkers.
- Knowledge of foundation and geotechnical engineering.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.

- Valid driver's license.
- Occasional statewide travel which may include overnight stays.
- Successful completion of a background screening.
- Certain provisions of the revolving door restrictions contained in 5 ILCS 430/5-45 apply to this position. As a result, the employee should be aware that if offered non-State employment during state employment or within one year immediately after ending State employment, the employee shall, prior to accepting any such non-State employment offer, notify the Office of the Executive Inspector General for the Agencies of the Illinois Governor (OEIG) or may be subject to a fine.
