The Principal of the Chester County Intermediate Unit Learning Center, reporting to the Assistant Director of Student Services, has direct oversight and responsibility for a comprehensive educational program for middle and high school students. These students are experiencing mental health or behavioral health challenges, significant social challenges, and/or anxiety disorders, and are in need of a highly structured program in order to make academic and social-emotional progress. The Principal directly supervises the following programs:
- Options Program: An emotional support program serving students who experience emotional and behavioral difficulties.
- Career Academy: A vocational training program serving students with a variety of disabilities that range from developmental to emotional and behavioral concerns.
- Serve as the instructional leader driving student achievement and social-emotional growth outcomes.
- Maintain highest levels of expertise and knowledge regarding best practices in special education and instructional pedagogy.
- Coordinate implementation of planned curriculum and assessment processes.
- Lead teachers in planning effective, developmentally appropriate programming for students.
- Provide direct instructional coaching to multiple teachers throughout the school year.
- Lead student data analysis process at the individual teacher level to the school-wide level. Facilitate data conversations and subsequent instructional planning with teachers on an ongoing basis.
- Provide leadership and planning of instruction for the day-to-day operation of special education programs.
- Interview, select, supervise, and evaluate the professional and support staff.
- Lead, develop, coordinate, and monitor professional development to provide continual improvement of delivery of services based on best practices of current research.
- Manage all facets of the budget including budget development, ongoing monitoring of revenue and expenditures, and approval of requisitioned expenditures within allocations.
- Oversee student discipline and lead behavior management team.
- Coordinate the multi-disciplinary team in the development of individualized education programs (IEPs).
- Procure necessary instructional materials and equipment as indicated by programmatic needs.
- Liaise with other CCIU and LEA staff to ensure continuum of special education programming for all students served.
- Oversee special education procedures and policies to assure compliance with applicable local, state, and federal mandates and laws and CCIU board policy.
- Master’s degree in educational leadership or special education required, Doctoral degree in related field preferred.
- 5 years teaching experience in special education required. Experience teaching students with emotional and behavioral challenges preferred.
- 5 years administrative experience required
- Experience in the development, implementation and evaluation of curriculum.
- Qualities of leadership and good communication skills essential in the fulfillment of responsibilities of the position.
- Experience in planning and conducting professional development activities.
- Ability to supervise professional and support staff and related service providers
- Special Education Certification required
- K-12 Pennsylvania Principal certification required
- Pennsylvania Supervisor of Special Education certification preferred
