Cable Technician - Data Center Technician

- Supervise and lead a team of cabling technicians in daily data center operations.
- Ensure projects are completed on time, within budget, and to specification.
- Assign tasks, track progress, and resolve on-site issues with minimal supervision.
- Maintain a high level of professionalism and ensure strict adherence to safety protocols and company policies.
- Install, terminate, label, and test high-performance copper (Cat6, Cat6A) and fiber optic cabling (OM3/OM4, OS2) in enterprise-grade data centers.
- Adhere to BICSI, TIA/EIA, and manufacturer standards to ensure maximum uptime and performance.
- Ensure clean, organized, and traceable cabling practices for network, power, and environmental monitoring systems.
- Perform patching, cable management, rack installation, and port documentation.
- Read and interpret data center infrastructure diagrams, network layouts, and floor plans.
- Maintain accurate documentation including cable schedules, asset tagging, labeling systems, and change records.
- Support infrastructure audits, compliance checks, and capacity planning efforts.
- Deep attention to detail and commitment to high-quality workmanship.
- Ability to prioritize tasks and lead multiple installations simultaneously.
- Excellent communication skills for both field and customer-facing coordination.
- Train and mentor Level I–III technicians in data center installation procedures, cable routing best practices, and safety.
- Provide technical instruction on-the-job and support continuous improvement.
- Conduct toolbox talks, safety briefings, and enforce company standards across the team.
- Complete and maintain job documentation including timesheets, materials usage, equipment logs, and incident reports.
- Conduct inspections on company vehicles, tools, and equipment used on-site.
- Support day-to-day data center operations including MAC (moves, adds, changes) and emergency repairs.
- Minimum 4+ years of experience in structured cabling, with at least 2 years in a data center or critical infrastructure environment.
- High school diploma or GED required, technical school or associate degree in a related field preferred.
- In-depth knowledge of copper and fiber cabling standards and testing practices, as well as cable containment systems, including overhead trays and underfloor ducts.
- Experience with labeling and cable management systems such as Panduit, CommScope, and Siemon.
- Possession of at least three industry-recognized certifications preferred (e.g., BICSI Technician, CNCI, CommScope, NCTI).
- Familiarity with basic network and power infrastructure, including patch panels, switches, and PDUs.
- Must have personal hand tools including punch down tool, snips, continuity tester, and cordless drill.
- Ability to lift up to 90 lbs. and work safely on ladders, lifts, and in confined spaces.
- Clean driving record and valid Utah Driver’s License required.
- Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screen and Level 3 background check.
- Must be able to work in temperature-controlled data centers, mechanical rooms, and interstitial spaces.
- The ability to work flexible hours, including nights and weekends, depending on project requirements.
- Willingness to travel to regional data centers and customer sites as needed.
