
Perinatal Nurse Educator/Perinatal Patient Safety Specialist

- Assesses, researches, coordinates/facilitates, implements, and evaluates educational and professional development programs, services and systems as established by nursing region, market, and/or campus leadership.
- Acts as role model, clinical nursing expert, change agent, mentor, and leader to the campus and region.
- Serves as a consultant for organizational, regional, and system initiatives and program development as related to nursing practice.
- Actively seeks out evidence based practice and findings and applies to clinical excellence and education.
- Provides clinical expertise and leadership to quality improvement initiatives.
- Coordinates and facilitates nursing transitions to practice and ongoing professional development through support of central onboarding, clinical orientation, nurse residency, fellowships, competency assessment, and preceptor and mentor programs.
- Contributes to the development and maintenance of educational tools and resources, integrating adult learning theories, organizational development principles and system approach.
- Other duties as assigned by leadership.
- Keeping staff updated on Perinatal Safety Initiatives through education, training, implementation, and policies.
- Staying informed on changing national clinical practice standards and CommonSpirit Health Perinatal Safety Initiatives.
- Disseminating relevant safety and specialty information.
- Participating in patient safety and administrative rounds.
- Presenting patient and staff safety concerns to appropriate clinical forums.
- Contributing to departmental performance reviews by identifying issues, assisting with data gathering and evaluation, and handling corporate data entry.
- Supporting the healthcare team during adverse events or untoward outcomes.
- Developing and implementing education/action plans for reported events.
- Implement and support patient safety and quality of care initiatives.
- Collaborate with clinical and administrative leadership to deliver survey results and address identified themes and issues.
- Promote and support competency-based education and confirm clinician completion.
- Implement Perinatal Safety initiatives as identified by Clinical Leadership.
- Monitor clinical outcomes.
- Facilitate interdisciplinary communication and education.
- Ensure data/information aligns with regulatory agency standards and best practice standards for service areas.
- Other duties as assigned by leadership.
- BSN required. Master’s Degree in Nursing or completion of MSN program within 5 years of start date.
- Minimum of 3 years clinical experience in Labor & Delivery setting.
- Active RN licensure in the state of North Dakota, or nurse licensure compact. Basic life support is required upon hire.
- Acceptable credentialing bodies and certifications include the following: American Heart Association: Basic Life Support.
- Nursing education experience demonstrating progressive experience in the development and implementation of clinical education programs.
- Ability to communicate effectively (oral and written).
- Ability to work independently and meet deadlines.
- Knowledge and application of advanced nursing skills.
- Ability to critically think in complex situations.
- MSN with emphasis in Education
- Specialty professional nursing certification
- Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing required
- Master’s degree or higher preferred
- A minimum of 5 years as a clinician in Women’s Services
- A minimum of 2 years of project experience in Women and Infants Perinatal Safety
- Experience with quality improvement/process improvement techniques, project/program management experience, required
- Current RN License in North Dakota or compact state
- CCRN-NEO, or C-EFM, or RN-BC MCN, or RN-BC-PERI, or RNC, or RNC-LRN, or RNC-MNN, or RNC-NIC, or RNC-OB
- BLS-CPR
- NRP within 90 days
- Proficiency in various software application, such as google or Microsoft
