Job Description Summary
The Electrical Design Engineer is responsible for the electrical design of Dynapower's power conversion equipment, primarily thyristor power supplies, switch-mode power supplies, chopper (IGBT) power supplies and power systems controls. This position also participates in setting the product strategy and new product introductions for the Industrial, High-Power Mining & Electrochemical, Military and Hydrogen divisions within Dynapower.Job DescriptionGeneral Responsibilities
  • Key participant in creating designs within inter-disciplinary teams to address complex product design and manufacturing challenges
  • Collaborates on feasibility studies and testing on new and modified designs
  • Organizes development testing, engineering analysis, qualification testing, production launch
  • Key participant in failure analysis investigations and engineering evaluations
  • Maintains product documentation (drawings and specifications) and lessons including; producing design reports, test reports, operating manuals and test procedures
  • Collaborates with senior engineers/managers to engage with customers in soliciting product specifications requirements, schedule expectations and budget
Experience / Qualifications
  • A university degree required (i.e. Bachelors degree) or equivalent relevant work experience
  • Must be a team player able to work in a fast-paced environment with demonstrated ability to handle multiple competing tasks and demands
  • Strong communication skills; oral, written and presentation

Additional Job DescriptionAdditional Responsibilities
  • Design and development of static power conversion equipment using power electronics semi-conductors (Thyristors, IGBTs, Diodes, etc.) including dedicated transformer(s), inductors (chokes and IPTs) and ripple filters.
  • Review customer specifications and ensure the designed product meets all technical, budget, and schedule requirements.
  • Design and develop dedicated power conversion controls (using existing circuit boards and assisting with the development of the new electronics, overall control scheme for controlling industrial processes, PLC and HMI application specific software)
  • Develop schematic application drawings using AutoCAD and/or AutoCAD Electrical
  • Selection of parts and creation of bills of materials (BOM) using ERP software including following components: Switching Semiconductors, Interface Circuitry, Fuses, Sensors, Signal Conditioners, Wiring Harnesses, Circuit boards, Control Panel components, motor starters, contactors, LV circuit breakers and MV Switchgear, etc.
Additional Experience
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience working in electrical equipment manufacturing environment – preferably in the power electronics and renewable energy industry.
  • 3-5 years in a product design role – proven track record of successful deployment of manufactured product.
  • Knowledge of AutoCAD and/or AutoCAD Electrical, or similar CAD software.
