- OPERATING A VARIETY OF HAND AND POWER TOOLS; OPERATE AND PERFORM PRE-TRIP INSPECTION/MINOR MAINTENANCE ON VEHICLES AND/OR MECHANIZED EQUIPMENT THAT THEY ARE OPERATING.
- READ AND UNDERSTAND JOB RELATED MATERIALS AND FILL OUT REPORTS AND FORMS
- MAINTAIN AND REPAIR HIGHWAYS, BRIDGES AND/OR OTHER HIGHWAY STRUCTURES
- COMMUNICATE BOTH VERBALLY AND IN WRITING, INCLUDING FOLLOWING ORAL/WRITTEN INSTRUCTIONS
- DEVELOP AND MAINTAIN EFFECTIVE WORKING RELATIONSHIPS WITH OTHERS
- LIFT, CARRY, AND HANDLE UP TO 50 POUNDS; STOOP, CLIMB, SQUAT, PUSH, PULL, CRAWL OR BEND ON A FREQUENT BASIS
- WORK OUTDOORS IN VARIOUS WEATHER CONDITIONS, ON VARIOUS TERRAINS AND AT VARIOUS HEIGHTS OR IN HIGH VOLUME TRAFFIC

- Due to the nature of this position, incumbent must respond to emergencies. While on-duty status, the positions incumbent must be readily available to operate a commercial motor vehicle (CMV), consistent with the type of commercial driver's license (CDL) the incumbent is required to possess, or on a routine basis performs other CMV safety-sensitive functions.
- The incumbent of this position is required to work with or around Department of Corrections inmates.
- Obtain certification in Temporary Traffic Control (Maintenance of Traffic) - Intermediate Level within one year and maintain it.
- Possess a valid Class "E" driver's license and obtain a Class "B" CDL Instructional Permit within 60 days of appointment to position and obtain a valid Class "B" CDL with air brakes within 10 months of appointment to the position
- Possess a valid Class "E" driver's license and obtain a Class "B" CDL Instructional Permit within 60 days of appointment to position and obtain a valid Class "B" CDL with air brakes within 10 months of appointment to the position
- three (3) or more moving violations in the past three (3) years that accumulate three (3) or more points per violation;
- any two (2) convictions of reckless driving in the past three (3) years;
- a suspension or revocation of the driver license for moving violations in the past three (3) years; and
- a suspension or revocation for refusal to take a sobriety test, or any suspension or revocation for a DUI conviction, in the past four (4) years.
