To broaden and deepen artistic, scholarly, and social perspectives, the Brenau Theatre Department is particularly interested in applicants who can advance the University’s goals for diversity, equity, and inclusion. The teaching load for this position is 12 credits per semester. The candidate's area of expertise in various performance movement techniques will be prioritized within the teaching load. We are especially seeking candidates who are proficient in the teaching of a BA program while being able to lend support to the BFA Musical Theatre and BFA Acting for Stage and Screen. Candidates who are proficient in Alexander Technique, Suzuki, Stage Combat, Performance studies, and/or Clowning forms will be given special consideration. The department also seeks a candidate with the ability to teach Theatre History, Voice, Theatre for Young Audiences, Playwriting, and/or Script Analysis. In addition to your teaching load additional department service duties such as recruiting, directing, community engagement, and collaborating with other outside entities (such as the Gainesville Theatre Alliance) will be a part of the position.Position Begins August 2024Minimum Qualifications:
  • A terminal degree in Theatre (MFA or Ph.D.) or an allied field from an accredited institution or at least 5 years of industry experience
  • 1-year minimum of university, college, or conservatory-level teaching experience.
  • Demonstrate commitment to excellence in teaching through portfolio, cover letter, and teaching philosophy
Responsibilities:
  • Serve as Program Director for the BA in Theatre; spearhead student recruitment for the BA program, be involved with Brenau’s
  • Assessment plans, and Academic advisement of undergraduate students.
  • The teaching load will include a mixture of studio and lecture courses that focus on movement for the performer. Other courses are dependent on a CV.
  • Creative contribution to mainstage performances.
  • Work collaboratively with students, faculty, staff, and the community.
  • Maintain professional and academic national standing.
Additional Responsibilities May Include:
  • Organizing and mentoring students with capstone projects and scholarly presentations
  • Service on University committees.
  • Evidence of creative or research activity in theatre, such as publications, conferences, presentations, workshops/masterclasses, awards, or grants.
  • May also teach Theatre History, Voice for actors, Theatre for Young Audiences, Playwriting, Major Playwrights, Audition Techniques,
  • Directing, Stage Combat, and/or Script Analysis or other related areas as directed by the Chair.
  • Directing and/or dramaturgy may be possible during the production season.
