Our client is seeking a Project Engineer/Field for our DC regional office, to support specialty geotechnical construction projects involving Auger Pressure Grouted Piling, Displacement Piling, Driven Piling, Pressure Grouting, Sheeting and Shoring, Ground Improvement, and Micro Piling.
This position is ideal for a more experienced Field Engineer (3–5 years) ready to grow into a hybrid engineering role with approximately 50% fieldwork and 50% office-based responsibilities. The role focuses on quality control, field coordination, and technical problem-solving, while also building experience in design review and the commercial aspects of project delivery.
Project Engineer/Field professionals ensure effective coordination among crews, subcontractors, and project stakeholders, while helping to uphold engineering standards, safety, and contractual quality. This position offers a pathway toward technical leadership or project management within a nationally recognized geotechnical contractor. RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Plan, schedule, and coordinate the technical and quality control aspects of assigned deep foundation and ground improvement projects
- Monitor job sites for compliance with specifications, codes, and safety standards
- Perform on-site quality control (QC) and documentation during pile and grout installations
- Collaborate with field crews, third-party inspectors, and general contractors to ensure clear communication and issue resolution
- Assist with technical design, calculations, and preparation of submittals under supervision of senior engineers
- Support preconstruction efforts including estimating, reviewing drawings/specs, and quantity takeoffs
- Track daily jobsite progress, production, material usage, and subcontractor activity
- Assist with documentation of change orders, monthly reporting, and project closeout
- Identify and troubleshoot field-related technical problems and initiate corrective actions
- Gain exposure to commercial project elements, including budget tracking, forecasting, and schedule management
- Attend project meetings with clients, contractors, and internal teams
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, or Construction Management
- 3–5 years of experience in geotechnical construction, heavy civil, or deep foundations
- Strong field engineering background with a desire to grow into a broader project role
- Relevant coursework: Soil Mechanics, Foundation Engineering, Ground Improvement, Earth Retaining Structures, and Geotechnical Lab Testing
- Ability and willingness to travel to regional job sites (approximately 50% travel)
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office; knowledge of AutoCAD, gINT, or scheduling tools is a plus
- Strong communication, teamwork, and field problem-solving abilities with crews, clients, and technical staff
- Familiar with project execution in the DC Metro Area
- Detail-oriented and safety-conscious with strong organizational skills
